The post holder will join a team that provides the day-to-day operational elements of our Community Equipment Loan Service (CELS), including but not limited to: delivering and collecting community equipment; management of warehouse stock (including manual handling and receiving goods inward); cleaning and refurbishment of used equipment; and use of ICT systems to monitor stock levels / usage, anticipate need, and place new orders.

The CELS is delivered on behalf of our colleagues within CYC Occupational Therapy, enabling them to deliver vital support to eligible York residents when they need it. As such, the postholder will be actively contributing to the delivery of the Council’s statutory service provision, to help meet the social care needs of York’s residents (both adults and children).

Strong teamwork and communication skills are a must. Following completion of a full induction and training package, the successful applicant will be working (often lone working) out in the community, providing service directly to residents in their own homes. Previous experience in a warehouse or delivery driving role is beneficial, but not essential; we are looking to recruit someone with a combination of the right skillset, values, and behaviours, who is determined to make a success of the role. It is a fast-paced environment, often with high volumes of work: therefore, you will need to demonstrate an ability to prioritise, and to work collaboratively with others to solve problems.

You must hold a full, valid UK driving license (category B minimum) with no restrictions on your ability or entitlement to drive a works vehicle up to 3500kg.

The postholder will also be expected to contribute to our delivery of Telecare / Response services as per the Job Description.

This post is physically quite demanding and the post holder will be expected to move and handle equipment and household furniture, with and without mechanical means of support. They will install some equipment that will require manual dexterity and may need the use of ladders. The post holder must work to minimise personal risk using health and safety guidelines and manual handling techniques.
