**Purpose**

To be responsible for developing and delivering youth work programmes in response to the needs of young people aged between 11-18 in accordance with our youth projects curriculum and quality standards.

**Key accountabilities**:

- To be engaged in face-to-face youth work including evenings and weekends. A guideline of 70% contact time is normally expected.
- Developing and delivering innovative youth work programmes that promote inclusion and develop youth work responses to support disaffected, disengaged and disadvantaged young people.
- Ensuring that the requirements of the youth club equal opportunities policies are met locally in particular the needs of minority ethnic communities, young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and other targeted groups.
- Ensuring staff support, supervision, and development of teams of paid and voluntary staff in accordance with the requirements of the youth projects staff development policy
- All aspects of administration, health and safety, maintenance of facilities site and equipment and budget management as delegated by line manager.
- To attend and participate in the planning and delivery of facilities site and equipment and budget management as delegated.

**Qualifications and professional membership**
- BA Hons in Social Work/Youth work **Desirable**
- NVQ Youth work Level 3 or 4 **Desirable**

- Working with young people and community groups in some capacity either voluntary, within community, family and/or within paid employment **Essential**
- Of working within and leading a team **Essential**
- Staff management procedures and practises **Essential.**
- Of running activities for children and young people **Essential**
- Of building a relationship with a range of different people **Essential**

**Skills**
- Ability to work with young people to develop programmes and activities that respond to their interests, offers challenges, and meets their identified personal and social developmental needs, in line with the youth service curriculum.
- Ability to build effective and positive relationships with a wide range of people and community-based groups.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with young people where there is a need to interpret and pull together a variety of sources of information in order to answer queries, offer advice, give information, assist to solve problems and/or develop practical solutions.
- Ensure that the views of young people are central to service planning, delivery, and evaluation.
- Recruitment and development of staff including the monitoring and maintaining of staff performance.
- Ability to work as part of a team to motivate, support team members, other staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to work to on your own initiative and attend identified training to maintain work standards within current legislation, policy and/or quality standards especially in relation to budgets, facility management, equality of opportunity and health and safety.
- Ability to support young people in gaining an accredited and/or a recorded outcome.
- Good standards of literacy and numeracy
