Northumberland NHS Talking Therapies Service is part of the national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme. It is run as a partnership between Mental Health Matters and Sunderland Counselling Service; two local and national providers of psychological therapies with a strong track record of success. The service has a strong commitment towards continuing professional development, staff well-being, and providing high quality, evidence-based psychological interventions for the people of Northumberland. About the role The role of a Trainee High Intensity Therapist involves the delivery of high intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.

About you We are seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals who have relevant clinical experience and/or training. For example: you may have a recorded or registered qualification at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling, or psychological therapy. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a high volume, performance-managed service, and manage your own caseload and time. You must have a basic knowledge of CBT and biopsychosocial models of anxiety and depression and how this may present in primary care.

We offer training opportunities in a secondary High Intensity modality once qualified (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Couples Therapy for Depression). We also have 4 clinical CPD events planned for 2023/24. As a service, Northumberland NHS Talking Therapies service responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by making significant adaptations to the way the service is delivered. We are committed to providing an uninterrupted, quality psychological therapies service to the people of Northumberland.

All clinicians are currently providing psychological therapy flexibly to suit client need via the telephone, video consultation, and face-to-face appointments delivered in COVID-secure settings. All staff are provided with the required equipment to work remotely. Trainees will have access to regular clinical and caseload management supervision, as well as the opportunity to provide the full range of interventions to meet the requirements of the course. We recognize that managing staff well-being at this time is a priority and we are committed to supporting this, utilising technology to ensure that teams remain connected and in regular communication with one another.
