**Heathfield (Horsham) is a Residential Care Home for the Elderly, seeking a Caring, Kind Night Team Leader, working 'waking' nights.**

**Hours of 8.30pm - 7.30am - 2 nights, Monday and Thursday and cover for holidays and sickness.**

**Overall Objectives of Role**

1. To support the Care Manager and the Deputy Care Manager in various aspects of their roles and the care of Residents. To provide a leader role for wakeful night duty cover at Heathfield, meeting the personal care needs of Residents in ways that respect the dignity of the individual and promote independence, providing for each Resident’s physical care, their emotional needs, safety and security. To Provide additional sleep in cover where necessary

2. To carry out or delegate a range of domestic duties which are able to be performed during night hours.

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**

Additional Notes

1. Night Care Assistants must not fall asleep (unless you are providing the sleep in cover), or leave the premises whilst on duty.

2. A rest break of 40 minutes may be taken when work demands permit, but any break must be interrupted immediately should an emergency occur.

3. Two care staff must be in the building at all times throughout the night.

Staff:
1. When you are in charge, to manage and lead all members of the Care staff team, so as to ensure that all related functions and responsibilities are carried out properly, with high standards of management, communication and motivation always adopted.

2. To help and encourage all junior

3. members of Care staff to contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of Heathfield, the creation of the right atmosphere and the fostering of good working relationships.

4. To participate in and contribute constructively to staff and Resident meetings.

5. To assist in the training of junior members of Care staff in all aspects of their work.

6. To ensure that all members of Care staff comply with Heathfield’s requirements relating to the wearing, repair and cleanliness of uniforms and work apparel.

7. At shift changeover times to liaise and communicate with Team Leader colleagues as appropriate.

Administration:
1. Following training, abiding by the rules and regulations governing the safe handling of medicines and paying close attention to detail, to administer prescribed medications to Residents, keeping all related records accurately and up-to-date as per NMC guidelines.

2. To be familiar with Heathfield’s fire regulations and emergency procedures. To participate in regular fire training and emergency practices.

3. In respect of any accident or notable incident which occurs whilst you are in charge, to record full details to (i) the Handover List; and (ii) the Resident’s Care Plan as appropriate. Also, if appropriate, to draw the Care Manager or the Deputy Care Manager’s attention (or the attention of other senior personnel) directly to the accident or incident.

4. To ensure that strict confidentiality is maintained in respect of all aspects of Residents’ care and their affairs, with all personal data and records being safeguarded in full compliance with the GDPR Act and related Principles.
- 5. _In respect of each Resident in your charge, to read and make written entries as appropriate to each Resident’s Care Plan and Daily Record Report.

6. To carry out a patrol of all of Heathfield’s internal premises at least once each hour throughout the period of night duty, walking past all bedrooms looking and listening for signs that Residents may need care e.g. lights on, noise or movement observed.

7. Following training and abiding by the rules and regulations governing the safe handling of drugs together with paying close attention to detail, to administer prescribed medications to Residents, keeping all related records accurately and up-to-date.

Residents:
1. To carefully and discreetly check with increased frequency upon Residents who are known to be in need of special attention.

2. To assist Residents preparing for bed and waking in the morning, which may involve providing help with dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, toileting and incontinence issues.

3. To help Residents who have mobility problems or physical disabilities.

4. To assist in the operation of Residents’ personal equipment or physical aids and equipment being used e.g. to reposition Residents in bed or for transferring Residents from chair to bed or vice versa, while ensuring that any aid being used is clean and safe to use.

5. In any time available between attending to Residents, to carry out a range of light domestic duties as directed, e.g. laundering or light cleaning.

6. To make and serve light refreshments to Residents if required, in accordance with the established practices, and to help with the washing up of trays and utensils.

7. To prepare breakfast trays.
