Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available from June 2023 for 1 year.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the group of Prof David Spring for a synthetic chemist with research experience in organic synthesis (preferably including peptide chemistry and chemical biology skills).

Funded by Bicycle Therapeutics, a new opportunity for a successful applicant will undertake research in novel chemical transformations applied to bicyclic peptides. The overall aims of the project will be to generate bicyclic peptides and investigate their use in a therapeutic context. The project is a collaboration with Bicycle Therapeutics

You will have, or be working towards, a PhD in organic chemistry and/or chemical biology. You will ideally have expertise in peptide synthesis and an interest in drug discovery. You will have carried out multi-step organic syntheses and characterised molecules by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Alongside this experience, you will be inspired by the biological activity of the molecules they synthesise. You will have an enthusiasm to extend the boundaries of your knowledge and to explore interactions with unfamiliar disciplines. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and will be capable of working under your own initiative, and will be enthusiastic to interact and share their expertise with other members of the research group.

The Department holds an Athena SWAN silver award for women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
