Cover Supervisor

We work closely with many forward-thinking schools in Portsmouth who regularly recruit Cover Supervisors for short, and long-term absence cover.
The main role of a Cover Supervisor is to manage the classroom in the Teacher's absence. The class Teacher will provide all the materials and tools needed for the lesson ready for you, the Cover Supervisor to deliver.
Although not actively teaching, it is important for a Cover Supervisor to have the skills and confidence needed to keep the class motivated and focused so they can work on the activities set and prepared for them. The role requires you to support pupilsas they work through the lesson and to understand how to help them to complete tasks, where needed.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will have:
- A desire to create the best conditions and environment for learning and developing skills.
- A desire to bring out the best in others and ensure they have the motivation to work towards achieving their potential.
- An ability to communicate with, engage and inspire pupils.
- The ability to hold a pupil's interest and encourage them to be excited about learning and their future prospects.
- Be able to work well with others and autonomously.
- A flexible and open to change attitude.
- A positive and ambitious outlook and the ability to inspire this in others.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in sometimes stressful situations.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills.
