Take the lead role in co-ordinating organisational external assessments and inspections, in relation to governance and quality agenda. Develop working relationship between the organisation and other external agencies e.g. including but not exclusive to CQC assessors, and ensure systems are in place to provide support to managers and staff as appropriate. Communicate positively and effectively, and actively give and receive feedback in a constructive manner.

Discuss sensitive and contentious information with staff from all levels of seniority within the trust, using negotiating, persuasive and empathetic skills, ensuring that sensitive and contentious information is communicated to the correct staff at the right time. Develop and implement a robust performance and assurance reporting system to provide reliable and valid reports on compliance progress for the trust committees. Produce and co-ordinate the production of routine, periodic and ad-hoc analysis, information, data for trust Committee, Executive Team meetings, senior managers, and front-line staff. Ensure there is system to disseminate organisational learning from the reviews, with recommendations for change identified and implemented and provide regular updates.

Ensure systematic review and oversight on CQUIN progress and provide reports on a quarterly basis on behalf of the governance directorate. Be responsible for overseeing the provision of Trust Quality Account on an annual basis, to provide the assurance that local quality priorities, key quality improvement targets and the contract targets are being met. Provide training/deliver presentations to staff groups, committees on governance areas of work and external assessment requirements. Ensure that Policies, Procedures, and activities are developed, implemented, and applied across all provider services to support the achievement of the Strategic Objectives and the NHSLA audit standards.

To develop and oversee the maintenance of a database of clinical guidance and ensure lines of accountability for implementation, are clearly demonstrated. Ensure there are appropriate systems to manage and monitor organisational procedural documentation including achieving compliance. To assist in the delivery of the Continuous Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance agendas working in close collaboration with managers and all teams, to ensure that all services meet the contractual quality standards. In close liaison with the Head of Clinical Audit and research ensure audit programmes and the research programme along with the implementation of NICE guidance are reported as part governance assurance process.

Working with the Head of Clinical Audit and research develop and implement a sound system and process for the management and monitoring of clinical audit and any required actions are implemented and progress measured and reported. Lead on the Trusts programme of internal, unannounced CQC inspection visits and providing regular reports to appropriate committees. In close liaison with the Head of Information Governance, support staff compliance with information governance and associated policies and procedures. In close liaison with the Head of Risk and Patient Safety ensure all lessons learnt from incidents and SUI are disseminated via a range of mechanisms to enhance best practice in Clinical Governance and provide regular reports to the trust committees as part of the governance assurance process.

Highlight current Clinical Governance and quality issues, steer changes and ensure Quality Improvement actions are agreed with all service teams. Provide regular updates on all aspects of quality governance via Trust communication processes.
