The post holder will work primarily on Ward 10 and as required on PICU with families that will be transferred to Ward 10. Families may be seen in outpatients as part of the support service.

To contribute to the assessment and to meet the social, emotional and practical needs, of children and their families with Neuroscience conditions, namely neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation, craniofacial and epilepsy.

The post holder will work closely with the Ward Sister and alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team in the Neurosciences and supporting disease specific charities. Interaction will be required with statutory agencies as required.

The role of the Family Support Worker is a clinical, patient facing role, working under direct supervision of registered practitioners, to provide the best care and support for our children and young people at BWCH.

To contribute to the assessment and to meet the social, emotional and practical needs, of children and their families with Neuroscience conditions, namely neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation, craniofacial and epilepsy.

To contribute to a continuing care service for children and families who are inpatient on Ward 10.

To assist in the provision of Family Centred Care within an environment that puts the needs of the child and family first using timely and effective communication skills to ensure that patients, parents, families, and staff are supported.

To understand the emotional impact of the cancer care pathway and have knowledge of the specialist support the family will require in collaboration with the CNS team and the wider MDT.

To work in partnership with patients and families to provide support to ensure that there is therapeutic provision and support for children and siblings.

In collaboration with the CNS team to ensure the wellbeing needs of the children and families are being supported within the clinical environment maintaining excellent lines of communication and escalation of concerns.

Undertake training and education as required to assist in the care of children and young people receiving cancer treatment.
