**Job Purpose**-As a highly skilled and experienced researcher, you will play a crucial role in driving our commitments in single-cell and spatial omics of viral infections. Your expertise in molecular biology and high-throughput sequencing technology, encompassing sample preparation and data interpretation, will be instrumental in uncovering intricate insights into the mechanisms of viral infections at the spatial and single-cell levels. By collaborating closely with other research teams, your mission will be to spearhead the implementation of innovative technologies, ensuring the successful delivery of our ambitious projects.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables. This will include designing and performing relevant experiments to evaluate and implement high-throughput sequencing assays, with a focus on troubleshooting and improving transcriptomics and single-cell and spatial omics protocols.
2. Create innovative/customised protocols for sample preparation for Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms.
3. Plan and prepare standard high-throughput libraries, including quality control of incoming samples, libraries and sequencing runs, and interpret results.
4. Actively participate in laboratory meetings, share knowledge with the team, and help drive efforts toward the goal of developing robust, cutting-edge high throughput sequencing (HTS) solutions.
5. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate, following data management guidelines in place.
6. Lead on data management plans applied to this area of research.
7. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of the CVR, including establishing and sustaining a track record of joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
9. Present work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
10. Assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
11. Support the development of collaborations with colleagues across the CVR and wider community (e.g. Academic and Industrial Partners).
12. Take a leading role in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and Institute research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the CVR.
13. Take the lead in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
14. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including budgets/expenditure.
15. Make a leading contribution to training activities (e.g. demonstrating etc) and associated administration as assigned by the CVR Director and in consultation with the PI.
16. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
17. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
18. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the PI/CVR Director.
19. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.

C1 Extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in areas related to the field of research, namely high-throughput sequencing.
C2 Demonstrable skills in molecular biology and high-throughput sequencing and related protocols and demonstration of an ability to troubleshoot in this area.
C3 Ability to implement a research project and work to deadlines to achieve its aims.
C4 Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex material clearly, as well as a strong predisposition towards collaboration.
C5 Excellent laboratory bench work and organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
C6 Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrable ability to work well with others as well as independently.
C7 Demonstrable proficiency in authoring and reviewing protocols and summary reports as well as the ability to document all work at a level of detail sufficient to reproduce experimental results.
C8 Ability to prioritize and allocate effort and resources appropriately including in developing methods and techniques and evaluating criteria for obtaining definitive results.
