Lancaster, United Kingdom CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria Full time

**About the role**:
Since it was set up in 2018, our Re-Fresh Peer Support Group has provided fun, adventure and support for dozens of young people coping with some very difficult situations at home.

We are looking to further develop our group by recruiting an energetic, imaginative and empathetic youth worker/caseworker for our peer support youth group at CancerCare's Slynedales Centre in Lancaster.

Re-Fresh is an activity-based peer support group for young people coping with bereavement, a diagnosis of cancer or life-limiting illness in loved ones or helping them come to terms with their own diagnosis.

The role will involve covering our weekly sessions at the Slynedales Centre and also taking part in our school holiday programme of trips and activities which take place off-site.

This would particularly suit someone who has experience of residential childcare who wants to gain more experience of one-to-one work with young people.

- Develop positive relationships with the young people in order to provide a 1-2-1 casework approach for their needs.

- Develop links with local schools, wellbeing services and other community providers of youth services to ensure the best support packages for the young people who access our services.
- Assist parents and guardians to support their children through cancer or bereavement, where appropriate
- Risk assess activities and young people’s behaviour and report back when necessary
- Report concerns about young people’s welfare in line with CancerCare’s safeguarding policy and procedure
- To undertake any other duties as may be required from time to time.

**Skills and Abilities**
