**About the role
- SEN Classroom Assistant**

You will be working within this mainstream Primary school's SEN provision for students with an EHCP statement of Autism. Students may also have needs that affect their speech and language skills or behaviour so prior experience working with students withAutism is highly desirable. You will assist students both within small group sessions alongside other students who have similar needs, or within the mainstream classroom when the student feels they are ready to engage in lessons with their peers. Some studentsmay exhibit challenging behaviours i.e. shouting, classroom disruption and so the successful applicant will need to have good behaviour management skills as they may be required to run behaviour interventions at times. A good understanding of Autism and causesof challenging behaviours is essential in this role, we will consider applicants who have worked with Autism or other SEN needs either professionally or through personal circumstances i.e. family members with SEN that they have worked with extensively. Dueto the needs of students only full-time applicants (8.30-4pm Monday-Friday) will be considered for this role.

**About the school**

The school are a medium sized mixed mainstream school for primary students aged 3-11 years old based in West Acton. They currently have 676 students in the school with a further 21 students within their Autism provision. The resource provision is purposebuilt with specialist features for students with additional needs, including a calm room, where students can request to go to decompress when feeling overstimulated, a sensory room, with tactile toys, textured materials and interactive graphics and an OccupationalTherapy room where students can engage with sensory regulatory activities that engage their gross motor skills. They aim to provide children with a specialist provision where they are taught by a high ratio of specialist staff in small, low arousal classrooms.The high number of staff allows for pupils to have their individual needs met and support them in accessing the National Curriculum. There is an expectation that ARP pupils will integrate into mainstream school life for part of the day.
