We are seeking a talented and motivated Bioinformatician to join our dynamic and world leading research team. As a Bioinformatician, you will play a crucial role in analysing and interpreting complex biological data to support our research and development efforts. You will collaborate with scientists, researchers, and other team members to design and implement bioinformatics workflows and tools, contributing to the advancement of our scientific discoveries.

The Bio-Informatician post will be involved within the area of Infection research. The post holder will be required to provide bioinformatics expertise and advice for research projects focussed on the translation of nanopore long-read sequencing based technologies into routine diagnostic service. To provide support for other members of CIDR and the scientists, operational and quality managers in the diagnostic laboratory and enable novel diagnostics into service and enhance the overall objectives of the group.

The Directorate of Infection (DoI) was formed in October 2008. The Directorate is one of the largest centers for Infectious Diseases (ID) clinical training in the UK. The Directorate, has attracted >£3.5 million to research health care associated infections (HCAI) over the last 3 years and has recently created the Centre for Clinical Infection and Diagnostics Research (CIDR) which is part of King’s College London and GSTT.

TheCentre for Clinical Infection and Diagnostics Research (CIDR) is led by Professor Jonathan Edgeworth (Consultant Microbiologist and Professor of Clinical Infectious Diseases). The CIDR strategy is to conduct translational research that improves diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases relevant to our local population with an expectation of patient benefit within 1-3 years.

The three main CIDR research themes are novel diagnostics for acute infection with a particular focus on bacterial, fungal and viral respiratory infections, surveillance and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, and clinical trials of novel therapies and vaccines.

Projects include nanopore sequencing to detect and prevent transmission of respiratory viruses in the hospital, evaluation of rapid diagnostic and screening strategies (including LamPORE), and serological tests to assess immunity following natural infection and vaccination.

The level of support required will vary between projects and may include advice on experimental design and appropriate analytical approaches, training researchers in the use of analysis packages and databases and various analytical procedures and tests, supervising analyses, performing analyses. In addition, the position will share with other members of the Statistical Group responsibility for the selection, development, maintenance and curation of databases to hold large volumes of expression profiling data and the selection and maintenance of current bioinformatics tool and resources. The post-holder will work closely with a network of bioinformaticians across our Academic, Industry and NHS partners.
