Clinical Imaging Assistant - Band 2

**Base**: St Austell X-Ray

We are looking for a self-motivated compassionate, caring, enthusiastic and hard-working individual to help and support the clinical staff within the Clinical Imaging Department.

The Clinical Imaging Assistant will be required to undertake a very wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Clinical Imaging staff and these will encompass clerical, patient care and chaperoning patients within the department.

You will need to be an excellent communicator with good inter-personal skills, have a practical approach and mechanical aptitude. A good general education is necessary including basic IT skills.

Previous experience working with patients or customers and basic clerical / keyboard skills and computer literacy are essential for the post. Previous experience as a carer would be desirable.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is a non-smoking organisation. Work always within the Trust policies and statutory legislation including emergency resuscitation and manual handling procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained through professional attendance on patients or through clinical access.

Acquire knowledge of Trust Policies on infection control, disposal of sharps and clinical waste, manual handling, and control of substances hazardous to health.

Use own knowledge and skills to ensure safety of oneself and others through training and adherence to protocols.

After appropriate training be able to use the radiology systems (e.g. CRIS/PACS) to document clinical care, book patients in or amend appointments.

Experience of working with the public.

Be active in enhancing own knowledge base, the post holder is expected to undertake continual development.

Promote a patient-focussed service in a caring environment and ensure collaborative working relationships with all other departments.

Under the direction of practitioners ensure a smooth workflow and effective communication.

Accompany Inpatients and Outpatients to and from examination rooms.

Assist team members with manual handling using appropriate and safe technique

Use communication skills to provide accurate and clear information regarding imaging procedures.

Prepare the patient when required, for imaging procedures.

Ensure the clinical environment is fully prepared for procedures including the selection of medical equipment and cleanliness of rooms.

Ensure medical equipment is ready for use.

Check and maintain the stock levels of consumables and linen in each room. Report the need for reorders.

Prepare and lay out trolleys in preparation for aseptic procedures e.g. biopsy / drainage, in line with departmental protocols.

Occasional transporting of biological/radioactive hazards.

Support staff to position patients for imaging procedures, when necessary.

Act as a chaperone & provide support to the practitioner during clinical procedures.

Provide patient support throughout simple and complex imaging procedures.

Report any change in patient condition or any problem or hazard within the department to the Practitioner in charge.

Deliver post-procedural care, including, basic clinical observations and monitoring, under direction of a senior member of the team.

The post holder is expected to document information as part of the patient record or where appropriate contribute alongside a registered practitioner.

Have good IT knowledge of the Radiology Information System (CRIS), booking in patients, confirming patient details, inputting information etc.

Provide clerical assistance, led by protocols in line with NHSBSP guidelines (training to be given) together with the taking and delivering messages to the appropriate team/colleague as and when these are necessary.

Be flexible in shift patterns, working hours and days and willing to work across all areas of the clinical imaging.
