**Job summary**:
A unique opportunity has arisen to work as an Ergonomist at the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine (CAM), RAF Henlow. This post would be suited ideally to an Ergonomist or Human Factors specialist with enthusiasm and experience in the aviation environment.

The purpose of this role is to provide specialist ergonomics and Human Factors (HF) advice to relevant stakeholders within the UK.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The role is based within the Accident Investigation and Human Factors (AIHF) Section at the Royal Air Force Centre of Aerospace Medicine (RAF CAM), RAF Henlow. The position will be working within a small team of aviation psychologists which will provide specialist advice to support military air accident investigation and undertake a range of other duties with the aim of identifying and addressing flight safety issues. The role will require assessment of the usability of controls and instrumentation within cockpits during Service Inquires to establish whether poor design was a factor of the accident sequence. It is likely that this may involve some overseas and UK travel.

In addition to supporting aircraft accident investigations the incumbent will conduct operational studies to assist units in identifying HF and ergonomics issues that could increase the risk of air accidents.

Key activities.
- Providing ergonomics and human factors input to military air accident investigations. This input will be under the guidance of the Head of Aviation Psychology and will include: Collection of HF and ergonomics evidence, analysing evidence, liaising with stakeholders, report writing, and developing recommendations to improve safety and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
- Responding to requests for specialist HF and ergonomics advice from operational teams.
- Leading specific projects to research ergonomics and HF topics.
- Liaising with organisations undertaking relevant ergonomics research.
- Providing support to HF training provision, including liaison with RAF CAM training section and delivery of specialist training where appropriate.
- Attendance at and input to relevant HF and ergonomic panels and working groups

**Person specification**:
The post holder must have an Ergonomics, Psychology or Human Factors degree. In addition, a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (such as ergonomics, human factors, occupational psychology) is desirable but not mandated.
