**Job Purpose**:
**Salary**: £37,000 - £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Radio Scotland’s three news programmes - Good Morning Scotland, Lunchtime Live and Drivetime - lead the news agenda across the country on a daily basis. We consistently break the day’s news, hold top politicians to account and highlight human interest stories that reflect Scotland’s people.
We are looking for Senior Journalists to join the team, taking responsibility for putting together and outputting these programmes. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in politics, cultural life, domestic and foreign news to shape the news agenda.
The job is primarily focused on Good Morning Scotland, which includes overnight shifts. This is a fantastic chance to lead the flagship programme of the station, outputting in the studio and taking on the key responsibility for kicking off the news agenda for the day across BBC Scotland.

**Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:
1. Decide on the stories for the programmes and lead others on the production of items through to going live on air. This includes assigning, briefing and determining priorities.
2. Strong editorial judgment, ability to make sound decisions quickly and under pressure.
3. Responsible for building morale/team spirit within teams; ensuring the best use of individual skills/abilities. Encouraging team members to think about how to do things better.
4. Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
5. Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of journalism.

**Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience**:
1. A genuine enthusiasm for stories which will be of interest to a diverse audience and the ability to think of creative ways of illustrating these stories.
2. A good knowledge of Scottish and British politics, cultural life, and domestic and foreign affairs
3. Considerable knowledge and practical experience of daily journalism.
4. Clear understanding of our programmes and their public profile.
5. Interpersonal skills to deal honestly and productively with staff including presenters.
6. Sound political judgement.
7. Be able to originate programme stories, news-making ideas and work to tight deadlines.
