You will be responsible for the efficient effective and professional supervision of the portering team across the range of portering services to wards and departments, including patient movement, transportation of specimens, medical gas, medical equipment, blood products, supplies, and emergency responses.

This is a working supervisor role and therefore the postholder will be expected to carry out all portering tasks. The post holder will support the Portering Manager; this will include assisting in the rostering of staff, booking and covering annual leave, arranging sickness cover in and out of hours, and assisting with sickness management and performance issues.

You will be responsible for identifying potential risks associated with all associated works and actively working with management to resolve them.

You will participate in Risk assessments on an annual review basis and for any new work identified.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the General Porters adhere to a uniform and PPE Trust requirements.

The Chargehand Porter will also identify any specific training needs for General Porters and development requirements.

To provide a professional lead to the portering team, monitoring high standards of service, discipline, customer care and dignity & respect.

To ensure all tasks and duties are completed correctly by the portering team using appropriate equipment, methods and procedures and in accordance with the specification and all Trust Departmental policies and procedures.

To monitor the performance of the portering team, and report any concerns or persistent non compliances to the Portering Operational Manager.

To support the Portering Operational Manager, including the rostering of staff, booking and covering annual leave, arranging sickness cover, receipt of timesheets for submission.

To participate in reviews of portering schedules, and assist with customer audits as and when required.
