**Job Title**: Saturday Matron
**Hours**: 8.30am - 5.30pm
Term time plus an additional 6 days during non term time in a
girls senior boarding house
**Salary**: Band B Point 17- point 21 (£22,338 - £25,262) pro rata, FTE
Actual gross salary based on a full academic year (£3,921
- £4,434)
**Reports to**: Houseparents/Head Boarding and Houses
**Responsible for**: Housekeepers (Jointly)
**Profile**
The Saturday Matron is a key member of the house team who supports the houseparent in the pastoral care of pupils and the day to day domestic running of the house. This is a varied job that requires a flexible approach and a good ability to prioritise. The matron is the main presence in the boarding house during the day and is also an important point of liaison between parents and the School. Matrons are expected to be calm, caring, good listeners and communicators. Matrons need to have an understanding of different cultures and practices, be able to use their initiative and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
**Specific Areas of Responsibility**
**Pastoral**
- Assist the houseparent in creating a friendly and happy atmosphere in house; help pupils settle into school life; help with supervising, monitoring and managing pupils’ daily routines and behaviour; promote pupils’ safety and positive mental and physical health
- Be a point of contact, facilitating necessary communication between parents, staff and pupils in conjunction with the houseparent
- Ensure pupils adhere to the School uniform policy including ensuring a pupil’s uniform is of a high standard
- Be responsible for day to day first aid and medical support in house in liaison with the medical centre (St Andrew’s Lodge) including; maintaining equipment, issuing medication, arranging appointments, keeping up to date records and communicating with parents and staff as appropriate
**House Management**
- Be responsible for coordinating laundry including that bedding is changed and washed frequently
- Liaise with the houseparent on necessary repairs and improvements to the furniture, furnishings, fixtures and fittings of the house, reporting any maintenance issues as required
- Liaise with and support the housekeepers to ensure that all rooms are clean and presentable on a daily basis and ensure that the house is clear and clean at the beginning and end of terms
- Monitor access for visitors, including contractors, to the house
- Ensure a weekly fire alarm test is conducted and recorded in line with legal requirements
- Assist with registration and monitor pupils’ whereabouts; record and follow up on absences and help locate pupils as necessary
- Support the houseparent in keeping house accounts and ordering basic supplies
- Ensure the smooth organisation of ‘stayovers’ keep account of stays and inform the School accounts office as necessary
- Assist the bursary in the organisation of pupils’ travel arrangements, liaise with pupils, parents and guardians, and complete an in-house data sheet for house staff
- Attend and help organise house social events as appropriate
- Conduct house tours for prospective parents and pupils
- Support the houseparent with the administration of the house as appropriate
