**The Role**

This position offers a talented engineer or scientist the opportunity to work with Wienerberger plc, the world’s largest manufacturer of ceramic bricks and tiles. It is a modern manufacturing organisation with highly-driven teams intent on improving productivity and adopting the latest technologies to manufacture the highest-quality ceramic products.

You will be responsible for a technical R&D project which will support the Company in its aims to reduce emissions of volatile components associated with ceramic manufacturing processes. You will have the opportunity to engage with senior management at Wienerberger to successfully deliver the project which will have a significant positive impact on the business and will reduce the environmental impact of the production of a range of ceramic products. You will also work extensively with leading academics in this field at Sheffield Hallam University.

You should hold a good honours degree (1st / 2:1 or higher) in Process Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Production Technology, Materials Science or a related discipline. You will be based principally at the Wienerberger Kingsbury site near Tamworth, with regular visits to Sheffield Hallam University.

A good understanding of materials science and chemistry with experience of materials characterisation are essential requirements of this post. Experience of working within a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in an area related to Wienerberger products or raw materials is also desirable.

You will be expected to be the primary manager and driver of the project. Previous experience of project management and the ability to work well in a team, as well as being able to work independently using your own initiative, is therefore essential. Excellent communication and IT skills are also essential.

Experience in modifying industrial processes and experience in executing experiments/trials for industrial R&D projects would be desirable.
