Due to recent promotions within the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme we are now looking to recruit 2 X Diabetic Eye Screener/Photographers to work across the North Lancashire (Morecambe, Lancaster and Blackpool areas)

As one of our screeners you will be joining a very busy, professional team of motivated and highly skilled individuals, you'll run local clinics to see our patients and photograph their eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy.

We'll need you to be empathetic and able to screen patients on a daily basis. In this role, you'll be supported whilst undertaking your training, but once that's completed will be working largely unsupervised in a pressured environment, so a cool head is essential

All in all, we want you to be customer and people focused, caring about our patients and being passionate about delivering an exceptional service at all times.

We have 2X posts available and have vacancies in the following geographic locations
- 2 x Vacancy in the North Lancashire (Morecambe, Lancaster and Blackpool area)

Although recruiting to specific geographic areas we may on occasion ask you to cover a clinic in a different area so a full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and flexibility is essential.

Working with other screeners, you'll be mentored and supported by our screener/graders and team leaders, to ensure you understand and learn everything you need to deliver an exceptional service to our patients.

Who we are

Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening serves a population of over 84,000 eligible diabetic patients and covers an area of 2800 square miles; we are a very busy, clinically focused team with the patient at the heart of all we do.

We operate from two bases, the main administrative and grading hub is based at the Holden Centre Barrowford, Nelson and we have a second satellite failsafe and grading office based at the Whitegate Drive Health Centre in Blackpool.

The screening service has been provided by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust since April 2019

JOB SUMMARY

To provide a safe and secure Diabetic Eye Screening Service to the diabetic population in the Lancashire area, in accordance with National and company policies and procedures, with the aim of reducing new blindness due to diabetic retinopathy.

Work as a team member of the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme

Delivering diabetic eye screening to eligible clients aged 12 and over across the Lancashire programme from community locations, which includes pre-screening patients, eye drop instillation and carrying out digital photography

Provide assistance as required in clerical tasks at the grading centre

MAIN DUTIES
1. Work independently and be responsible for managing own workload, time and priorities.
2. Be accountable for own decisions and actions.
3. Recognise when to seek further advice, and seek advice appropriately.

Screening/Digital photography
1. Deliver digital photographic retinal screening to patients with diabetes aged 12 and over registered with an East Lancashire General Practice.
2. Drive to screening location.
3. Install mobile equipment at designated screening location in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location.
4. Set up the allocated room(s) as required and in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location.
5. Conduct Diabetic Eye Screening sessions in accordance with proper and safe practice, national standards, and identified protocols and with the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and National policies and procedures.
6. Uninstall mobile equipment and leave allocated room(s) in a proper and safe condition as according to local protocols and operational policies.
7. Explain the screening procedure to each patient according to National and local policy and procedures
8. Confirm and record electronically patients’ identity and demographic information
9. Obtain and record electronically appropriate consent to screening and information sharing, according to National and local policy and procedures
