A&E and Paediatric A&E Volunteer

Can you spare 3/4 hours a week? Do you enjoy busy environments? Aged 18 or over?

We are looking for volunteers to support in our A&E & Emergency Departments Monday to Sunday 8am
- 8pm.

If you are considering a career in Healthcare or just want to gain new experience, this is a brilliant opportunity to support our patients and staff and develop your skills.

We are looking for volunteers to support in our busy A&E departments for adults and paediatrics (also known as Emergency Department, and a part of our Urgent Care Services). Volunteering under the guidance of the nurse in charge or senior staff members, you will support our patients across A&E making their stay as comfortable as possible.

Our Volunteers in our A&E areas are invaluable to support our most vulnerable patients who come into the hospital and just need a friendly face to put them at ease, we have found by having volunteers in our Emergency Department areas this provide a much-needed support to our patients and staff.

Our volunteers are invaluable part of the hospital team. Working with us in a volunteering role means you're playing a part in making a difference to our patients and their families.

Provide directional support to guide patients to the correct areas

Provide digital support in completing forms

Provide nutritional support/refreshments to patients and visitors

Meet and Greet patients and visitors

Visiting / talking with patients who may not have visitors, in paediatrics this includes visiting parents / guardians.

Keeping bed areas tidy

Restock clinical trolleys

The duties and responsibilities listed below are not intended to be exhaustive, volunteers are required to adopt a flexible approach to meet the needs of service requirements.

Helping to serve nutrition / hydration to patients as appropriate under the guidance and supervision of clinical staff.

Making drinks for visitors, parents / guardians and staff and wash/tidy away any used crockery/cutlery used.

Visiting / chatting / reading to patients who may not have visitors, supporting play specialists to engage children in play activities.

Visiting / chatting with parents / guardians of paediatric patients, advise on facilities within the Trust ie Costa etc.

Keeping patient bed areas tidy.

Collecting appropriate items from other Trust areas as requested.

Ensuring the continued well-being and comfort of patients whilst they are awaiting transport and giving assistance to and from transport where necessary.

Restock appropriate clinical trolleys under the guidance of the nurse in charge
