To support Dietetic students in a student lead capacity
- To act as specialist clinician for the adult inpatient service, supporting the clinical lead/s with evolving and embedding best practice into the clinical area.
- To manage own specialist caseload in this area. This may include advising the MDT on the most appropriate form of nutritional management for patients on the acute stroke and rehab wards and critical care unit.
- Work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date records.
- To carry out specialist assessment and treatment of patients in a variety of settings with the aim of preventing hospital admissions and/or facilitating safe and timely discharges and transfer of care.
- Determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programs and/or provide specialist advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
- Take part in the education and training of Dietitians and be one the student training leads
- To support the Clinical Leads/ Team Leader in the day to day running of the Dietetic Team.
- To support and advise within the wider MDT on the delivery of the service

CHFT employs over 6,000 colleagues who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes.

In December 2018 the Department of Health and Social Care awarded CHFT £196.5m to invest in local health services. This investment will be used to build new buildings on both sites including a brand new A&E and Paediatric A&E building, a new Enhanced ICU and an upgrade to theatres wards. A new staff and patient car park will also be built.
- To work within the dietetic service, developing effective clinical interventions within the speciality in order to contribute to clinical practice in the team in line with current evidence base.
- To manage autonomously a clinical workload of patients / clients at a specialist level, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinical records.
- To have specialist assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to:

- To provide highly complex sensitive nutritional counseling to patients, and carers where postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and use of empathy, reassurance and motivational skills are required to overcome barriers to change.
- Ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills (verbal and non-verbal) to communicate highly complex information in an understandable form to the diverse and multicultural population and where there are significant barriers to understanding e.g. challenging behaviours, learning difficulties, cognitive impairment and pain or fear as a result of their medical condition.
- To take a lead in providing expert dietetic advice to the multidisciplinary team in meetings and ward rounds in order to provide expert advice to clinicians regarding the provision of dietetic treatment for adults based on clinical evidence. This will involve nutritional assessment (interpretations of biochemistry, anthropometrics, drug interactions, clinical condition and diet history) and the development of treatment plans (calculation of nutritional requirements and client-centred goals).
- To be responsible for ensuring that patients and carers have consented prior to dietetic intervention in line with professional guidelines.
- Provide expert dietetic input for those patients requiring nutritional support based on the interpretation of biochemical results, medical conditions and ethical issues.
- To directly prescribe nutritional supplements and enteral feeds for adults based on interpretation of nutritional assessment (within local policy agreements) and provide detailed nutritional treatment plans using such supplements/ent
