An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Officer to join a well-established Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH).

The Team is based in the Estates and Facilities Department of NUH and will be responsible for providing a service across the Trust Portfolio of Buildings, including the Queen’s Medical, City Hospital and Ropewalk House campuses.

The role offers a variety of work streams which including undertaking Fire Risk Assessments, Face to Face Training and the provision of advice to Staff and Contractors in respect of Fire Safety.

Whilst a background in fire safety is an advantage, we seek a career biased individual who is willing to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in order to grow into the role.

You will support the Fire Safety Manager in the delivery of fire safety and periodic reports whilst being capable of forging strong relationships with other stakeholders

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a team of 4 fire safety professionals and be responsible for delivering fire safety work streams across the organisation.

This will include delivering the Fire Risk Assessment Programme, Mandatory Training and advice to all levels of both the Trust and external stakeholders.

The work undertaken will help the fire safety manager deliver a robust investment strategy and furnish information for periodic reports to committees and other groups.

You will be joining a large but friendly Estates and Facilities Team that delivers the full range of EFM services in support of the clinical and business needs of the Trust.

You will be part of the EFM Senior Management Team and will need to be able to travel between sites as well as be based at different locations according to the needs of the Service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your role and responsibilities will include.

To work closely with the Fire Safety Manager in the provision of good fire safety standards across the trust. Ensuring risks are communicated to stakeholders.

Assist in the creation of risk register data via, the Fire Risk Assessment Programme, which will drive the capital investment programme annually.

Assist in the development and delivery of fire safety training, at specific levels, across the Trust.

To assist in ensuring legislative compliance and the provision of a fire safe environment for staff, patients and all visitors alike.

Undertake fire investigations, post incident, and assist in the production of reports on those incidents.

Assist the fire safety manager by the provision of data and information that helps create periodic reporting streams.

To provide specialist fire safety advice, in line with their competencies, to all internal and external stakeholders.

Have the ability to forge strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and professional bodies.

Assist in the undertaking of periodic audits in conjunction with external authorities.

To show continuing development and improvement against defined objectives in terms of fire safety knowledge and understanding.

Assist the Fire Safety Manager in the development of a fire safety strategy.

Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Science or engineering based education or extensive experience of fire safety.

Desirable criteria
- Science, engineering or fire engineering/fire safety degree.
- Corporate membership of professional organisation (Institute of Fire Engineers; Institute of Occupational Safety and Health).
- Registered as a fire assessor with a recognised accreditation body.
- membership of a professional organisation eg., Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE), Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)

Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience of Fire Safety
- Experience of preparing and delivering training courses
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries to improve standards
- Experience of working with external agencies and influencing internal change
- Experience and knowledge of undertaking Fire Risk Assessment
- Knowledge of fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation and codes of practice and fire safety training
- Ability to undertake fire safety audits

Desirable criteria
- Understanding of Fire Modelling Techniques
- Knowledge of Risk Management Techniques
- Practicable knowledge and interpretation
