This is an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officer to work within a progressive and forward-thinking service.

The role involves a combination of on-the-job training and study at university to achieve a qualification in Rehabilitation Studies Visual Impairment. This is a permanent position with a requirement to complete the apprenticeship over approximately two years whilst attending Birmingham City University on block release to study for this foundation degree.

As you progress within the apprenticeship you will undertake specialist assessments of the rehabilitation needs of visually impaired and/or dual sensory impaired people and be aware of their carers needs.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship and achieving the qualification, the postholder will progress to the role of Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officer which attracts a higher grade and salary (currently £32,909 to £37,262). You will be required to be registered with the Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN).

The role of a Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officer is vital in promoting client independence, as well as improving awareness of our service to the local community and our partner agencies. You will be responsible for individual and creative rehabilitation plans for the people you support. Maintaining the highest possible standards of assessment and support planning, empowering people to retain their independence and confidence in all aspects of their daily lives. You will provide robust advice, guidance, and direct support to people with a visual impairment including those with dual sensory loss and to provide a range of strength-based interventions, including assessing, delivering, and evaluating a range of rehabilitation programmes.

You will be committed to learning, enthusiastic, motivated, and organised in your approach to delivering a quality service. You will be competent in communicating with service users, carers and other professional colleagues and be confident in making sound decisions.
