**A bit about the role**

To plan and deliver a range of groups and activities for young carers. Working with young carers and young adult carers individually and in a group setting, using an outcomes-focused approach to help them have the same opportunities as other children and young people. The post will support a step-up/step-down preventative approach, providing ongoing support for young carers, helping them to enjoy and achieve through a wide-ranging programme of activities. Contribute to the effective and efficient operation of Newcastle Carers and support the delivery of the organisation's aims and objectives.

**Key responsibilities and duties**
- To organise a programme of activities, training, and peer support groups to provide young carers and young adult carers aged between 8-25 with a regular break from their caring responsibilities.
- To involve carers in the development of the service and planning of activities to ensure they meet the needs of children and young people accessing the service.
- To deliver effective support to young carers and young adult carers, responding to their needs through effective relationships.
- To plan and deliver a range of activities and groups, including holiday activities and explore the use of digital groups and activities.
- To plan and prepare necessary paperwork in advance of sessions to ensure they meet required standards, takin responsibility for accurate record keeping, e.g. risk assessments, parental consent, transport lists, medical forms, etc.
- To arrange and coordinate required staff, sessional staff and volunteers to ensure sessions are adequately staffed for all related activities within agreed ratios.
- To remove any barriers that young carers and young adult carers may face in accessing groups and activities.
- To work across the Young Carers Team, ensuring that where there is identified need, the young carer and young adult carer are referred to other support mechanisms.
- To identify and respond to issues affecting children and young people as necessary, e.g. organise targeted sessions to address lifestyle or issue-based topics.
- Working with managers to ensure programmes are delivered within budget. To make reasonable requests for expenditure within project budgets, record expenditure accurately, and notify management when lack of resources may affect service delivery.
- To follow the Newcastle Carers Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, ensure that you maintain confidentiality and report all concerns to the relevant authority.
- To identify opportunities, forge links with other providers for joint working opportunities and effectively work in partnership with other organisations.
- To keep and maintain accurate records, including report writing, carer records, correspondence and the monitoring and evaluation of the groups and activities programme.

**Person Specification - Knowledge, Experience and Skills**
- A minimum of 2 years experience of working with children, young people and their families in challenging circumstances.
- Experience in developing and facilitating/running group sessions for children and young people.
- Able to regularly work evenings and weekends. We anticipate that this would be three evenings per week.
- Experience in managing a varied and challenging workload.
- Able to problem-solve and manage unexpected situations.
- Experience in implementing participation and engagement models.
- Understand the issues that affect young people and their families, the impact this has on them and the legislation and policies that impact their lives.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships.
- Knowledge and experience of working practices within health, social care and education.
- Ability to take responsibility for the monitoring and maintenance of a safe working environment, including risk assessments, etc.
- A high level of confidence in using IT systems, preferably with experience in using Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook. - 13. Strong commitment to equality and diversity.
