Job Introduction
**ROLE OF THE JOB**
The main role of the Streetworks team is to coordinate works on the highway network in order to minimize disruption to residents and the travelling public. This is a fast paced working environment that offers a lot of variety in terms of day to day duties and this role will have a primary focus to coordinate fibre works in the county.
The role will include assessing and processing Streetworks permits to grant or refuse the right to work on the highways network considering factors such as other works in the area and the impact of any proposed traffic management. The role also includes assessing legal orders and requests to hold events involving the public highway. Permit Officers are responsible for identifying non compliance with the legislation and issuing the related penalty notices.
This is a fixed term contract that runs until the end of March 2027 in line with the current end dates of the Government’s fibre rollout scheme Project Gigabit. The role is formally based at County Hall in Morpeth however the team works on a hybrid model with the opportunity for homeworking following a period of training.
**REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB**
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills with 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade C or above
- Knowledge of NRSWA 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004, HAUC guidance and relevant Acts and codes of practice which provide the framework for delivering effective network management
- Significant experience of working in a high pressure office environment with emphasis on accuracy, meeting deadlines and managing competing demands
- Valid UK driving licence for attending external meetings
