Working in partnership with the wider community, in order to identify public health priorities and reduce health inequalities.

The post holder will improve on existing breastfeeding rates by assessing, planning implementing and evaluating care programmes that aim to improve on current practice and including support for complex breastfeeding issues.

The post holder will provide a Frenulotomy Service undertaking this procedure in house to increase breast feeding rates

The infant feeding lead will maintain the Baby friendly initiative and continue to ensure the accreditation is maintained, including working towards the Gold award, lead on training programmes for parents, staff and service users’.Provide expert knowledge to both trained and untrained staff, acting as a role model and setting high standards
- The post holder will support staff, parents and families to improve the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding rates at NLaG and establish good practice in infant nutrition.
- To support the BFI lead in the implementation of the WHO/UNICEF best practice standards for breastfeeding throughout the Trust, by assisting in the development, teaching and educational programmes for all health professionals involved in supporting women to breast feed and assisting those parents who choose to artificial feed and who are experiencing complex issues.
- To raise the profile of breast feeding and its benefits with a view to changing culture and improving infant nutrition.
- To assist the BFI Lead in the delivery of high-quality standards of care related to the establishment of breast feeding and infant feeding in both the hospital and community settings in line with the Baby Friendly UK Initiative.
- Assist the Lead in the delivery of a high-quality training programme for staff in acute and community settings who may contribute to supporting families with breast feeding, in order to raise the level of skill and expertise.
- Provide additional support to those families or professionals where there are particular difficulties in establishing and maintaining breast feeding.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of an overall Action Plan to include the development and marketing of the Breast-Feeding Service within the locality

- Demonstrate strong support to staff with reference to ensuring a positive approach to breast feeding.
- Assist the Lead in the planning, and arrange various events and sessions as required for awareness raising celebration events and promoting breast feeding as a cultural norm.
