**The Company**

We are one of the leading independent building material suppliers in the East Midlands. We have been established for over 33 years and operate out of a 2.5-acre site in Ilkeston. We sell heavy side building materials, landscaping and timber materials to the trade and public.

**Yard Operative Role**

We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on team work. You will be required to support others working together as a team.

Customers will regularly be around the yard, so having good people skills is important as you will be interacting directly with customers.

As a Heavy side merchant some of products are quite heavy to lift so the person needs to able to cope with the physical demands of the role.

You will be part of team that works in a safe environment so working to safety procedures and keeping the yard & warehouses looking presentable, along with maintaining a professional environment will be part of your role as much as it is everyone else.

**Responsibilities include**:
1. Serving customers

2. Loading KRM lorries
3. Picking stock for additions to the current days deliveries

4. Picking orders
5. Unloading & checking deliveries from our suppliers

6. Tidying your area

**The Individual**

We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on teamwork. You will be required to provide support to the team. You will be interacting with customers so you will need to have the following qualities; customer friendly, cheerful personality, good attitude to work, able to work on your own initiative.

**Key skills**

We are a small team committed to customer service excellence as well as the development of our people. You must be willing and able to contribute to this supportive environment, communicate effectively, and work co-cooperatively with your colleagues whilst maintaining a flexible approach.

You should have relevant experience working with customers face to face and it would be desirable to have worked in a yard previously.

You should have relevant experience of picking and packing orders accurately.

You will require a forklift truck counter balance license as you will be using the machinery daily to move products around the yard.

It isn’t essential to have product knowledge of the heavy side materials, training will be provided.

**Package / Remuneration.**

The hours are Monday to Friday 7.20am to 5pm and Saturday 7.20am to 12pm. We have a Saturday rota in place which aims to give you every other Saturday off. The package includes 20 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, plus Christmas Shut-down
