**Job Title: Railway Wagon (Tank) Weld Inspector**
**Location**: Saudi Arabia - must be willing to relocate.

**Salary**: £400 - £500 per day Outside IR35

**Contract**: 1 year extendable

**Overview**
The Weld Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and integrity of welded structures and components. They are responsible for inspecting welding activities, identifying defects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.

The scope of the Inspection, Testing and Requalification will be adopted on the entire Merchant Grade Acid wagon (MGA) and Pure Phosphoric Acid wagon (PPA) tank, fleets, comprising qty 589 and 34 wagons respectively.

The MGA tank is a carbon steel elastomer lined tank, AAR classification 211A100W5.

The PPA tank is a carbon steel elastomer lined tank with jacket (housing steam coils between shell and jacket. The tank is a fusion welded structure consisting of four tank rings and two convex inner ends. The tank ring seams are offset 45 degrees from the top centreline of the tank. The volume of the tank is approximately 58,500 litres, with a head space of approximately 15%.

The inspection activities are expected to involve (but not limited to):

- Visual Inspection
- Structural Integrity Inspection and Tests
- Thickness Tests
- Inspection and Test Compliance Date for Tank Cars (10-year Hydrostatic test)
- Weld Repair Review of weld repair proposals and associated method statements, with endorsement of suitability or guidance to achieve such.
- The inspector will be expected to undertake all activities locally from physical inspection through to **report and certification.**

**Responsibilities**
- Conduct visual inspections of welded joints to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- undertaking Inspection, Testing and Requalification
- It is expected that pre-repair inspection will not be necessary, with Inspection, Testing and Requalification being undertaken following repair.
- Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and radiographic testing (RT) to detect defects in welds.
- Interpret and evaluate NDT results to determine the acceptability of welds.
- Inspect welding equipment, materials, and consumables to ensure they meet specifications and are in proper working condition.
- Verify welder qualifications and certifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Review welding procedures and documentation to ensure they meet industry standards and client specifications.
- Collaborate with welding personnel and engineers to address welding-related issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of inspection activities, test results, and documentation.
- Participate in welder training programs and provide guidance on proper welding techniques and quality requirements.
- Monitor and enforce safety procedures and practices in welding operations to prevent accidents and injuries.

**Requirements**:

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in welding inspection preferred.
- Certification: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred; additional NDT certifications (e.g., ASNT Level II) highly desirable.
- Experience: Proven experience in welding inspection or related field; familiarity with various welding processes and techniques.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of welding codes, standards, and specifications (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX); proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Skills: Excellent visual acuity and attention to detail; proficient in using inspection tools and equipment; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Safety: Commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment; knowledge of safety regulations and practices in welding operations.
