Mindfully Wired Communications (MWC) is a vibrant and unique consultancy working on marine
environmental issues and campaigns through bold, values-led communication. We work broadly
across issues of marine governance and protection, seafood marketing and the blue economy, and
coastal communities. As a small-but-mighty team of scientists, linguists, event pros, policy
buffs, and creatives, we use our broad experience and personal values to tell a new story of
sustainability.

The Role

We are seeking a proactive, well-organised, and creative Senior Science & Policy Officer to
join our busy team and lead the delivery of high-quality communications for a number of new and
existing projects. The successful applicant will have excellent written communication skills,
and will be genuinely enthusiastic about working with diverse stakeholders to bring about
positive change.

Our Science & Policy team works to bridge the gap between researchers, fishers, NGOs and
policy makers. We work with a range of clients, from international research groups driving for
sustainable fisheries management, to advocacy campaigns, an All-Party Parliamentary Group,
and government-led initiatives to tackle bycatch.

You will work collaboratively with the Head of Science & Policy, in addition to the Science
& Policy Co-Managers, to support delivery of a range of projects, notably the
communications for an interdisciplinary research programme enabling Ecosystem Based Fisheries
Management in Europe. As a Senior Science & Policy Officer, you will lead on set projects
within your portfolio, contribute to projects led by senior staff and provide support for more
junior team members, as needed. Other duties will include (but are not limited to) supporting
the strategy and delivery of upcoming projects; writing and editing for a range of audiences;
supporting the graphic design of reports and website content; desk-based research, and
engagement with key stakeholders.

The role will suit someone who has excellent attention to detail and a flair for writing as
well as design. We’re looking for someone who can think creatively, adapt their written style
and tone to suit diverse audiences, and work collaboratively, with clients, stakeholders and
the MWC team. An interest in sustainability and an appreciation for the marine environment are
essential. You should be curious to explore new topics and ideas, able to create meaningful
connections within and between projects, and produce content that has impact on a relatable,
human level.

**Responsibilities**:
Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
Producing high-quality written outputs (conference reports, policy briefs, newsletters,
press releases etc.)

Copyediting and proofreading a diverse range of materials

Producing and implementing bespoke communications and social media strategies, and
maintaining communications channels for clients

Supporting website design and development, as well as the creation of branded assets for
clients

Developing infographics and visual communications materials based on reports and academic
papers

Leading the delivery of a set portfolio of projects

Client liaison, oversight of tasks delegated to more junior members of the team

Any other tasks as required at the discretion of the MWC Director and wider Senior
Leadership Team

**Requirements**:
Essential

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience producing high-quality written and visual communications materials

Proven experience in leading projects

Confidence in adapting complex text and wide-ranging research into digestible materials for
use by non-experts

Goal-driven, with the ability to juggle a diverse workload whilst maintaining high
standards

A keen visual eye and attention to detail

Confidence in using the Microsoft Office suite

Degree-level qualification

Desirable

Understanding of social science approaches

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range
of stakeholders including scientists, fishers, government officials and more.

Experience of co-design and/or facilitation

Experience with video editing software (Premiere Pro, Animoto)

Experience of using social media in a professional context.

Previous knowledge of fisheries, seafood or marine conservation issues

Familiarity with Google Workspace, and any design tools
