This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest and most successful integrated care NHS Trust’s in the UK, with a team of 9,000 dedicated staff. We serve a wonderfully diverse population of over a million people in North West London and across the boroughs of Brent, Harrow, and Ealing.

As an Acute Consultant you will be expected to participate fully in the provision of acute medicine services, including clinical governance, service development, teaching, and research. You should have experience in Acute/General Medicine and are required to be on the Specialist Register (AIM or GIM) within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.

All newly appointed consultants will be offered to join the Trust’s consultant induction programme.

Northwick Park is a Major Acute Hospital with a busy medical take and an established reputation for patients presenting with a very wide range of medical conditions with a high degree of acuity. We run two Acute Medical Units (56 beds) where patients remain under the care of the acute team for the duration of their admission on the unit, a Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and a Medical High Dependency Unit.

At London North West Healthcare University NHS Trust, you will become part of a highly skilled and dynamic team located on the borough border of sporty Brent and historic Harrow. With Wembley Stadium to the southeast and Harrow on the hill countryside to the west, our wards offer exceptional views of the area. Not to mention, the fantastic variety of tea shops, cafes, and restaurants. We’re also a short walk from Northwick Park Station, on the Metropolitan line, or Kenton Station, on the Bakerloo and Overground lines.

The Acute Medicine Service has a strong multi
- disciplinary ethos supported by our excellent Matrons, dedicated administrative staff and seven - day therapy service. Additionally, our Acute Medical units are supported by training and trust grade registrars and junior doctors.

Posts will be based predominantly at Northwick Park Hospital but there is the option of cross site working at Ealing Hospital as well.

**Northwick Park Hospital**:
Northwick Park is a Major Acute Hospital with a busy medical take and an established reputation for patients presenting with a very wide range of medical conditions with a high degree of acuity. Recognition of the vital role that is played by Acute Medicine has seen the Trust make a substantial investment in the service. This will enable the department to develop three Acute Medical Unit wards (on a phased approach) with patients remaining under the care of the acute team for their duration on the unit. In addition the team runs the award-winning Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and the well-established Medical High Dependency Unit. Participation in HDU will be optional dependent on previous experience and competencies.

The post holders will join six acute medicine consultants, fourteen acute/specialty consultants and thirty-three specialty medical consultants who together are responsible for providing the acute and general internal medicine service at Northwick Park Hospital.

**Ealing Hospital**:
The Acute Medicine service is thriving at Ealing hospital. After an uncertain period during which the Emergency Department faced closure with unclear implications for acute services on the site we can now plan with confidence for the future. The department has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in teaching and training.

The Acute Medical Unit is a 33-bedded ward through which all acute medical admissions are streamed. The department is in the process of expanding the Ambulatory Service. A new unit has recently been opened, co-located with the Acute Frailty Service. The team has pioneered ambulatory care for patients with Heart Failure, winning multiple awards. The challenge now is to stream a larger proportion of medical referrals through the Ambulatory Service.
