Transactions Team Leader

Purpose of the role

Working closely with the Transaction Accounts Assistant, the role will be responsible for processing Innovate UK’s payments to partners, suppliers and grant recipients. The role will ensure accurate and timely payment is accompanied by strong financial control.

Key Areas of Accountability

Leadership / teamwork / collaboration Effective and active management of the transactions team. Provide guidance, motivation and support to team members. Makes proactive suggestions to improve ways of working and coordinates with other teams within UKRI

Build & maintain good working relationships with colleagues & partners, and provide input where needed to assist in the resolution of queries, & to share findings

Deals effectively with challenging situations and consults at a higher level when necessary

Adaptable and flexible approach to work; able to effectively multi-task

Delivery / programmes / projects / process Responsible for delivering allocated tasks and functions in support of the team including:

- Processing of regular payment runs (at least two per week), including obtaining authorisation from colleagues
- Perform month end close tasks including carrying out bank reconciliations, running the month end reports and maintaining currency exchange rates
- carrying out off
- and on-system checks and reconciliations to ensure payments are accurate and complete
- manual matching of invoices where automation is not possible
- maintenance of customer and supplier details
- dealing with exceptions (e.g., prepayment requests, unmatched invoices, time-critical payments)
- answering queries from UKRI colleagues and suppliers relating to invoices and payments
- Lead on cash management forecast and in month cash balances
- Lead on the Transaction Team involvement in moving to the new UKRI finance and HR system in autumn 2023 including attending workshops, look at process improvement, user acceptance testing of new system

Essential skills, qualifications, and experience

Experience and knowledge:

- Proficiency in Office 365 environment, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
- Previous experience working in a finance environment, or similar operational environment, dealing with high-volume transactions processing
- Line management experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of Workday is highly desirable

Skills and abilities:

- Good organisational skills, able to manage and prioritise own workload and that of a team and meet organisational timelines in a timely manner
- Good numeracy skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues
- Able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Able to resolve problems independently whilst knowing when to consult or take advice

Qualifications:

- Studying towards AAT or equivalent qualification (desirable)
