You will join a well-established community team based in Ceredigion as part of the Flying Start and Early Years team.

The successful post holder will have regular access to senior colleagues and clinical practice groups.

The Hywel Dda Speech and Language Therapy service is keen to promote and actively support leadership skills in all members of staff.

Flying Start is part of Welsh Government’s early years programme aimed at providing additional support services for children under 4 and their families living in disadvantaged areas of Wales.

You will work alongside Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and Speech & Language Therapy Assistants to provide a service to children with communication difficulties and their families.

You will work with families, carers and Early Years staff to support the development of communication for all children in the Flying Start area and a small number of children outside of the Flying Start footprint. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to provide individual and group speech and language therapy and will be expected to support the development of services to this client group in collaboration with the whole Flying Start/Early Years team. Work is carried out in a variety of locations, including children's homes, nurseries, playgroups and schools.

Raising awareness of the importance of communication is pivotal to this role and will include contribution to groups such as Launch into Language and other parent courses.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
**Four main hospitals**: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
**Seven community hospitals**: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (five of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Previous experience and knowledge of working with young children and their families and carers would be an advantage. Successful applicants will need to be creative, enthusiastic and resourceful, have a range of relevant experience as a speech and language therapist or undergraduate, and be able to meet the travelling requirements of the job.

There will be opportunities to contribute to the profession at an All Wales level such as through the Public Health CEN.
