Cannock Chase Hospital, Wolverhampton NHS Trust is looking for a motivated, confident and experienced orthotics clerk. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team. Our orthotic service provides both in and out patient interventions and services to external clinics based in Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.

To deliver an effective and competent level of receptionist and/or clerical support and consistently deliver a “client-focused” service which promotes good customer service and effective working relationships.

Senior staff (Grade 3) will be required to demonstrate a significant level of initiative in organising their workload and that of others and in taking decisions and action within clearly defined limits.

To prepare orthotic clinic sheets, patient information sheets and orthoses ensuring all are accurate

To provide reception service for patients that is efficient and welcoming

To make appointments for patients to attend the orthotic clinics, also to cancel and re-book clinics as the need arises and arrange their transport when appropriate.

To accurately add, amend and retrieve information on the computerized patient management and orthotic ordering systems

To make prescription charges and issue receipts or note proof of exemption from such charges where appropriate

To order, progress chase, receive and dispatch orthoses

To respond to the needs of the patients and their carers/families who attend the clinics and to assist and chaperone the orthosists when required

To work in collaboration with supplies, stores and finance to provide a cost effective and timely service

To work closely with other medical/trust staff to ensure the development of an efficient team to effectively support the directorate

To assist with stock control of orthoses held within the department

To undertake various clerical duties in connection with the custody and use of health records

Senior staff (Grade 3) to assist with the training of junior staff including an introduction to working practices within the department/directorate

To be actively involved with procedural changes which may arise and to provide information as requested.

To be aware of security arrangements in your own working areas and be responsible for the security/distribution of keys held in the department

Provide cover for colleagues as required, long or short term for department to meet its contractual obligations.

To efficiently maintain waiting lists, adding patients’ names and sending for patients for attendance with the instructions of the orthotists

Ensure that Health and Safety legislation is complied with at all times, being aware of and following Trust and Service Policies including:
- Health and Safety
- Manual Handling
- COSHH
- Infection Control
- Incident and Complaints Reporting
- Risk Management

Report any accidents, complaints, defects in equipment, near misses and untoward incidents following Trust procedure or that the host Trust.

To be familiar with and comply to all appropriate trust policies and procedures

Undertake all statutory and mandatory training as required by the Trust and any identified training that will help develop the post in line with the Department’s and Division’s objectives.

Ensure that all information relating to clients and staff gained through employment with the Trust is kept confidential in accordance with Trust policy and the Data Protection Act

Carry out any other duties as required by the service, commensurate with the type/level/grade of the post.
