**Befriender Role Description**
**The role of a befriender**:
The role of a befriender is to support an older adult in the community by spending 1-2 hours with them per week. This can be undertaken in the older adult’s home or in the community, such as meeting in a coffee shop.
To become a befriender you will be asked to undertake training and complete a PVG (protecting vulnerable groups scheme). We ask once matched with a befriendee that a six-month commitment to the befriending match would be appreciated.
**The main roles of a befriender are**:
- Building a supportive relationship with the older adult
- Maintaining appropriate boundaries within the befriending relationship (this will be explained in training)
- Be reliable
- Stay in regular contact with Befriend Motherwell
- Follow policies and procedures that in place to protect you and the befriendee
- To inform Befriend Motherwell of any concerns they have relating to the older adult
- To respect the confidentiality of the older adult
- To claim your expenses
**What you get in return**:

- Reference after six months
- Expenses paid that are incurred such as vehicle mileage as part of your befriending
Please note that this is a volunteering role and is not a paid position. However, volunteers are able to claim reasonable expenses incurred during befriending.
**Job Types**: Part-time, Volunteer
Part-time hours: 1-2 per week
**Salary**: £1.00-£2.00 per year
