**Independent Fostering Vice Chair**

**Location - **North Somerset Council - Town Hall - Weston Super Mare

**Contract - **Freelance/Self employed

**Fee - **£125 per panel to include £50 reading fee and £75 attendance fee. If acting up for the chair the fee is £300 to include £150 reading fee and £150 attendance fee

**Frequency - **Panel meetings are fortnightly on a Wednesday, 9-2pm. These are held in person at the Town Hall.

**Commitment - **Panel members are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings annually, including panel training sessions and quarterly business meetings and practice meetings.

North Somerset Council is looking to recruit Independent Fostering Vice Chair for their foster panel in Weston Super Mare.

The fostering panel provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and connected person/kinship carers; you will draw on your personal and professional knowledge and experience and make reasoned recommendations on applicants/carers suitability to foster. You will be committed to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice.

We are looking for a competent and accomplished professional who has substantial experience and expertise in chairing complex meetings. The Vice Chair position requires an individual with the skills and aptitude to effectively manage the fostering panel when stepping in for the panel chair.

You will need to demonstrate clear knowledge of the legislative framework for fostering, national minimum standards for fostering and regulations as well as understanding of best practice initiatives. You will have a robust knowledge of childcare planning and child development.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to put prospective and approved foster carers at ease, whilst also ensuring panel functions are adhered to, through sound and responsible decision making. You’ll have the ability to make an assessment based on the written and oral information presented to the panel, in order to make a recommendation in a balanced and informed way.

You will be well prepared and have the ability to manage complex issues sensitively whilst ensuring clear recording of decision making is undertaken. You will work closely with the Panel Advisor to ensure quality assurance issues are raised and responded to in a timely way.

Applicants should have experience either professionally, personally, or both of the placement of children in foster families, or of children being away from their birth family. This can include work in; education, health, as a foster carer or having personal experience of being looked after.
