**Maintenance Electrical Assistant**

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is seeking an experienced Electrician to join our Maintenance Team. There is a wide variety of equipment onsite including 240V Domestic, 3 Phase, Alarms, CCTV to name a few, We are looking for someone who has experience with this type of equipment.

You will be trustworthy and dependable, and be someone who enjoys working to a high standard working on your own as well as being happy following a routine and taking instructions. Ability to communicate with people at all levels and the capacity to undertake physical work, indoors and outdoors throughout the year are essential.

You must be able to work flexible hours if required. A sensible, pragmatic and practical approach is important. You must understand and follow all relevant Safe Working Practises. A valid driving licence, and ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential. An interest in the Garden and in the environment would be an advantage.

Working as part of a team to carry out operational, electrical and other maintenance duties in all areas of the Garden. This involves maintaining the estate to a high standard and providing a safe and welcoming environment for all users whilst ensuring compliance with safe working practices.

To be fully competent in the fault diagnosis, repair and testing of all engineering plant and equipment across the estate.

**General Responsibilities**

Skilled in the hands on repair of designated plant and equipment within the limits of their training, having the ability to fault find, diagnose and repair using their technical knowledge on equipment, including but not limited to:

- Air Conditioners/ Ventilation systems
- Intruder & CCTV systems
- Mechanical installations
- Lifts
- Heating Systems
- Electrical Installations
- Water Systems
- IT systems
- General electro/mechanical installations
- BMS actuators and controls
- Generators
- Catering equipment
- Plumbing services
- The working requirements will involve the need to take part in a rostered shift system
- Supporting maintenance supervisor to ensure urgent response and rectification times are met
- Interpret and work from instruction, drawings and specifications without constant supervision
- Working on own initiative when applicable or as part of a team
- Carry out engineering repairs/ new work to a high level of skill, conforming to the necessary regulations
- Attend training courses as required.
- Observe all statutory and legal requirements, particularly in relation to Health & Safety at Work Act
- Provide such flexibility as necessary to cover emergency works 7 days a week
- Leave work areas clean and tidy at all times.
- Demonstrate a clear and on-going commitment to inter-trade flexibility.
- Provide safe isolation of relevant services when required.
- Have ability and willingness to work across trades within the sphere of their technical competency, e.g. making safe building fabric etc.
- Develop good working relationships with staff at all levels
- Provide instruction and guidance for maintenance assistants and apprentices, on all aspects of plant and equipment in order to develop their skills and knowledge
- Be adaptable to the introduction of new technology and working techniques
- Use of IT systems to provide/monitor data
- Delivery of on the job training for employees where necessary
- Perform a range of engineering duties safely and efficiently as requested by management
- To service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate engineering plant and equipment
- To service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate specialist plant and equipment
- Carry out new and small works in accordance with legislation, Appoved Codes of Practice and Best Industry practice
- Authorised/willing to undertake further specialist training
- Communicates technical issues to other maintenance staff, explain technical issues to other staff
- Any other appropriate duties as requested by management
- Immediately report any defects in the facilities structure or equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor

**Specific Duties**
- Carrying out a full range of electrical maintenance duties to a high standard.
- Perform reactive and pre-planned maintenance activities.
- Assist in providing electrical compliance across the site.
- Provide technical advice and support for all electrical systems throughout the garden and liaise with all departments regarding electrical issues.
- Assist in carrying out fixed wire and portable appliance testing.
- Install new electrical systems and equipment.
- Supporting the Facilities manager with the development of electrical practices and processes.
- Attending for work punctually and dependably with a clean and smart appearance wearing a name badge at all times.
- Compliance work including daily, weekly and monthly checks.
- Maintaining the recycling system.
