To deliver a comprehensive range of services, working across several departments i.e., waste, transport, linen, porters, post room to provide a quality service in all areas dealing with varied and changing duties overs all services, working 5 over 7-day roster

**Area of Accountability**:

- Patients (including babies, children, and adults)
- Mail
- Medical Records
- Pharmacy supplies
- Blood units and Pathology Specimens
- Sterile Supplies
- Patient meals
- Handle all waste categories
- Linen
- Office furniture and equipment
- Deceased patients
- Transport

**Porter Duties including (but not limited to)**:

- Checking all modes of patient equipment are safe and in good working order:

- Attend all crash and trauma calls to support the crash team
- Undertake Non -routine Portering duties such as office furniture and equipment movement
- Replenish medical gas supply, including where required the connection to the medical gases systems
- Collection from clinical area and transfer to Mortuary of deceased patients to include the completion of appropriate documentation
- Provide support to staff where required

**Linen Duties including (but not limited to)**:

- Take items of clothing or linen from wards and other patient areas
- Deliver clean linen to wards
- Sort linen ready for cleaning or washing
- Pack linen for storage or delivery
- Keep records of stock levels
- Repairing uniforms

Waste Duties including (but not limited to):

- To adhere to internal polices and procedure by ensuring waste is disposed of in relevant containers for example, yellow and tiger bag waste in yellow wheelie bin and black domestic waste in grey bins and soiled linen in Linen cages
- To ensure that bins are labelled correctly
- Ensure all relevant bins, holding areas and compounds are always locked
- To manually operate a tug, compactor, and other electrical equipment in same and responsible manner
- To ensure that your working areas are in a safe and tidy
- Posts Room Duties including (but not limited to):

- Collect and sort out post that enters the building
- Sort letters, parcel for delivery
- Deliver mail to relevant department and wards across the hospital

**Transport Duties including (but not limited to)**:

- Collection of waste from local area
- Deliver and collection of medical notes
- Delivery and collection of cages, furniture to a designate collection point
- The delivery and collection of medication to be despatched to patients, hospitals, and other locations.
- Completion of daily vehicle checks
- Completion of all necessary paperwork
- Check and clean vehicles as instructed
- Complete milage checks prior to using vehicles
- Hold vehicle cards responsibly

**Other Key Responsibilities**:

- To carry out another responsible request made by the management team
- Teaching, Training and Research
- Train new starters, bank, and agency staff on own duties and cascade information

**Communications**:

- Liaise with Trust colleague's patient and visitors and the public in a polite and considerate manner and prompt assistance when required
- Be perceptive to concerns and moods and to anticipate how others may feel about something which is said.
- Communicate and respond appropriately to patients /clients displaying challenging behaviour
- Ensure that telephones bleeps and two-way radios are answered efficiently and courteously
