**What you'll do**
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Translational Pathology group in Oncology R&D Translational Medicine department, where you will be at the forefront of the evolution of translational science for the global oncology group in AstraZeneca
You will have the opportunity to impact an industry-leading portfolio of programs from early clinical development of novel therapeutics through to post-marketing opportunities that support approved targeted therapies.
**Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:
This role is lab-based carrying out histopathology techniques such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridisation (ISH) and digital slide scanning in order to carry out biomarker analysis on clinical trial tumour tissues. Following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining our compliance to the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) are essential.
There is also an exciting opportunity within this role, to develop into a group leader. In addition to running clinical biomarker assays, the senior scientist will help establish and manage a small team of scientists and technicians that will be responsible for supporting our high-throughput validated biomarker assays on clinical trial studies in compliance with good clinical practice.
**Essential Skills And Experience**
- Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field.
- At least 3 year’s experience with manual and/or automated immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) or in situ hybridisation (ISH) assays.
- Experienced in microscopy and/or digital slide scanning, particularly examination of human pathology samples.
- Experience working with human tissue samples and tissue-based histopathology methods.
- Knowledge of GCP regulations, processes, operations and compliance.
- Knowledge of the regulations and practices relating to the ethical use of human tissue samples.
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Familiarity with and commitment to safe laboratory practices.
**Desirable Skills And Experience**:
- Prior experience leading and supervising a group of scientists or technicians, including talent acquisition, staff training and development and human resources management.
- Career exposure to the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process.
- Prior experience managing a complex and dynamic portfolio, including conflicting priorities and timelines.
- Experience with Quality Management Systems, deviation management (including Root Cause Analysis) and CAPA plan development and execution.
- Experience with risk assessments, mitigation planning and collaborating with management to ensure risk-managed solutions are implemented in a timely fashion.
- Knowledge of regulatory authority inspection processes and audit/ compliance program design.
- Skills in developing multiplexed immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization (ISH) assays.
- Knowledge of cancer biology and pathology.
