Type of contract: Fixed term - 3 years (with possibility for a permanent role).

Location Flexible but with at least two days a week to be worked from the charity’s offices at One Birch Court, Blackpole East, Worcester, WR3 8SG

Report to Communications Manager

Work closely with Communications and Fundraising Director, Communications Manager, Marketing and Communications Officer, Videographer, Graphics Design Officer, Digital Officer, Press and Media Officer, Fundraising Manager, Patient Services Manager and Patient Advocacy Manager.

Leukaemia Care is the UK’s leading leukaemia charity. For over 50 years, we have been dedicated to ensuring that everyone affected receives the best possible diagnosis, information, advice, treatment and support.

We are here for everyone affected by leukaemia and related blood cancer types - such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).

We provide information, advice and support for anyone affected, this includes patients and their friends and families too. We raise awareness of the issues impacting people affected by leukaemia, MDS and MPN, and campaign to fix them. We are driving early diagnosis, raising public awareness, improving services and ensuring access to effective treatments.

How do we do this? We have a wide-range of services aimed at patients and their loved ones from diagnosis and beyond. Our support services range from nurse-led helplines, support groups and free-of-charge medical information to access to paid counselling, grants for those feeling the financial strain of a diagnosis and providing buddies so people always have somebody to talk to who have experienced something similar to them. Crucial to our work is raising awareness of leukaemia as a blood cancer and the importance for early diagnosis. Leukaemia can be difficult to spot as the symptoms are similar to many other common conditions. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the signs of leukaemia and this leads to diagnosis being delayed, which can worsen outcomes for patients.

As well as working to educate the general public through our #SpotLeukaemia campaign, we are working closely with our colleagues working in front line medical services to ensure they have the most up-to-date information on diagnosing leukaemia. We know that by raising awareness and working to educate health care professionals, we can save lives and improve outcomes.

Overview

Leukaemia Care are expanding their Communications Team and are looking for a creative and innovative Social Media Officer who will be responsible for managing all social media channels and delivering online campaigns. As well as coordinating and creating content for social media, you’ll need to regularly produce reports and analysis to ensure channels, campaigns and ongoing activity are all performing in line or above internal KPIs and external industry benchmarks.

Duties and responsibilities

By working with the Communications Manager and Communications and Fundraising Director:
Social Media Management

1. Manage the day-to-day running of our social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn as well as any closed groups and forums.
2. Responsible for the daily monitoring of all charity social media channels, managing responses and maintaining a regular monitoring schedule.
3. Run paid social media campaigns aligning with strategic team objectives and manage associated budgets
4. Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer to produce creative and innovative content for social media, taking into account an audience first approach and coordinating the organic social media schedule.
5. Strive to create content that is going to be seen by millions of people worldwide, widening Leukaemia Care’s reach and improving the general public’s knowledge of how to spot the signs and symptoms of Leukaemia
6. Be responsive and reactive across all social media to build and manage relationships with stakeholders across the charity
7. Stay on top of key social media trends, and feed these into the wider team
8. Work with the wider Communications Team in the production of eye-catching graphics, video and live video content.
9. Proofread content supplied by colleagues and ensure all posts are audience focused and follow a consistent tone of voice
10. Use analytical tools to report back on the performance of both organic and paid social activity, making recommendations to address gaps and how to optimise performance
11. Share trends in user activity to the wider organisation, ensuring the information is easy to understand for a non-digital audience
