**THE ROLE**

Reporting to the DevOps Lead, the Automation Engineer will deliver and support the use of automation in SGN’s AWS estate, utilising modern CICD tooling. SGN’s objective is to deliver working systems into AWS, using best practice automation.

Working with AWS, other third-party partners and the SGN Cyber Programme, the Automation Engineer will:

- Bring hands-on Ansible experience to the team
- Have previously delivered infrastructure as code (IaC) into the Cloud, using recognised tooling e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation (knowledge of Pulumi would be desirable but not mandatory)
- Assist in design and delivery of secure environments and release solutions for SGN, within a CICD pipeline
- Ensure that appropriate quality standards are in place
- Ensure that 3rd party design and delivery partners are adhering to SGN standards
- Assist in delivery of a continuous improvement programme for SGN CICD

**Methodology & Processes**
- Understand the use of platform, environment and release technologies within Cloud solutions
- Ensure the CoE adhere to all standards, methods, tools, and ways of working
- Assist in delivery of a CoE 'Continuous Improvement Plan’

**Stakeholder & People Management**
- Create strong relationships with AWS, third-party partners and IT Stakeholders
- Work closely with SGN Business Solutions, Architecture, Security, IT Ops and Digital Delivery to provision successful technology improvement for the good of SGN

**Planning & Resources**:

- Deliver technical work packages within agreed time frame and budget
- Ensure delivery costs are accurately estimated, presented, and agreed
- Ensure dependencies, risks and issues are understood and dealt with
- Work with SGN Architecture, Security and Technical Assurance teams to help define standards, tools, methods and patterns for platform, environment, and release
- Work with Architecture, Security and Technical Assurance teams to help define improvements in tools, technology, pattern enhancement and re-use of assets

**WHAT YOU’LL BRING**

**Education**:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience.

**Experience**:

- Experience in delivery of environments on Cloud platforms; ideally but not restricted to AWS
- Cloud certification is preferable
- Hands-on experience of Ansible and IaC
- Demonstrable experience of delivering CICD pipelines utilising multiple tools and API’s
- Proficient in the use of CICD tooling, with experience in at least one scripting language
- Five or more years within IT, with at least three on automation and cloud platforms
- Probable experience within building infrastructure (Windows, Linux)
