The post is an established 10 PA post within the Gloucestershire Cellular Pathology Laboratory based at Cheltenham General Hospital. Cheltenham is the gateway to the Cotswolds which is the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales and has been rated in many articles in the top 10 places to live in Britain. The contract will be held by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Subspecialty reporting in subspecialty teams is longstanding within the department. This post will contribute to at least one of the following subspecialities: gastrointestinal, urology, lung, head and neck, dermatology, breast and lymphoreticular, and non-gynaecological cytopathology.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

The appointees will be managerially responsible to the Clinical Head(s) of Department of the Gloucestershire Histopathology Department and to the Specialty Director, the Director of Service, the Medical Director and the Trust Board. The current Head of the Department for Histopathology is Dr Mike Thomas with subspeciality leadership provided as per the consultant list in the job description. The Specialty Director is Dr Philippa Moore, and Divisional Chief of Service is Dr Alex D'Agapeyeff. The management arrangements are consistent with the principles as stated in the Strategic Review of Pathology Services, particularly paragraphs 4.22-4.26 and meet current UKAS standards.

Each appointee will be responsible for cut up, reporting and MDT meeting attendance within subspecialty teams of consultants. We routinely work with expert BMS practitioners in dissection dealing with small and large specimens and we are planning to change our diagnostic workflow using digital pathology for primary diagnosis. Development of appropriate subspecialty interests will be encouraged and supported.

As an employee of the Trust the appointee will work in close co-operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
- To be on the GMC register with current licence to practice

**To conform to all revalidation requirements**: applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT

To participate in the provision of a first class cellular pathology service.

To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.

To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s service plans.

To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Diagnostic and Support Services Division or the Trust.
