Engage Education have a longstanding partnership with an SEN school in Barnsley who are in need of a Pastoral Support Worker.

The school itself caters for children aged 5 to 16. It is a nurturing, modern space for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be working alongside a team of excellent teachers and support staff who are amongst the most dedicated, caring and resilient in education.

This position is full-time and for an immediate start (w/c 20th February). It is initially a temporary position, but could become permanent in due course.

This school caters for young people SEMH issues and so can often show challenging behaviours. You will need to have or be willing to learn a range of behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies.

Your Role:

- Supporting learners on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
- Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class.
- You will be assisting pupils with SEMH issues to develop their social and academic skills.
- Upholding the safeguarding of all pupils.

What you will need:

- A range of behaviour management techniques
- Patience and resilience.
- The creativity to engage a young person in learning through a range of methods
- To be reliable and commit to working at the school everyday for an extended period of time.
- The ability to empathise with children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
