A unique opportunity has arisen at HopScotch Children's Charity for a live-in caretaker at Ardvullin. You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team who are passionate and committed to providing memory-making respite breaks for children in Scotland who live in difficult circumstances.

You will be responsible for the smooth running of the house and grounds and will be our guests' main point of call. You must be friendly and approachable, have good interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and use initiative. This position would suit an active retired couple or a family with small children looking to relocate.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

HOPSCOTCH’S PURPOSE

To provide the highest quality holiday experience in a safe and secure environment for groups of vulnerable children, between 7 and 12 years of age, living in Scotland.

JOB OBJECTIVES

**REPORTING TO**

Director

**KEY TASKS**
- Undertaking various health and safety checks before the arrival of a group of visitors to Ardvullin.
- Co-ordinating and communicating with contract cleaners.
- Gardening and performing landscape duties or supervising others in these roles
- Inspecting the building, including heating, cooling, lighting and alarm systems to make sure they are in good working order
- Performing basic repairs and maintenance tasks as required.
- Touching up paintwork when required.
- Sourcing, booking and supervising contractors for major repairs
- Monitoring cleaning materials, tools, and furniture for reordering as required
- Managing bookings for activity centre hire
- Opening building prior to groups and weekend rentals arriving and closing activity centre at the end of each day when in use.
- Undertaking health and safety check prior to each group of visitor’s arrival.
- Adhering to the charity’s safety policies to create a safe working environment for everyone.
- Storing equipment and supplies safely.
- Understanding fire safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating the building.
- Liaising with people using and renting the house and activity centre.
- Emergency (relief) cleaning as required.
- Manage the laundry pick up and drop offs.
- Assist with laundry when required.
- To carry out any additional tasks as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Ability to communicate in a friendly and approachable manner with user Essential organisation staff and young people and Ardvullin rental groups.

Excellent timekeeping Essential

Ability to adapt and respond to a variety of situations and people to meet Essential changing priorities.

Ability to work flexible hours in line with requirements. Available to work Essential unsocial hours when required.

Full UK driving licence. Essential

PCV training or D1 entitlement. Desirable

Experience of current cleaning materials/methods/appliances and Essential monitor the quality of work undertaken by the school cleaning staff

Commitment to confidentiality in relation to children and young people. Essential

An understanding of health & safety requirements EssentialAbility to work independently and use initiative within HopScotch policy Essential and practice

First Aid Qualification. Desirable(training can be provided).

D.I.Y. skills to undertake day to day repairs and maintenance of Essential building,

Ability to assist in the training and induction of new cleaning and Essential staff

COSHE

Ability to manage own time effectively and demonstrate initiative Essential including establishing priorities within own workload.

Ability to operate as part of a team or individually as required Essential

Ability to perform the physical tasks required by the post, Essential including lifting, carrying and pushing various equipment to undertake the duties of the post.

Ability to carry out a range of administrative tasks, including stock Essential taking.
