**Lead Instructor**

**Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre**

**Full Time - Fixed Term until October 2023**

**Salary £22,777 - £25,409 (pro-rata)**

Dorset Outdoor Education Service are looking for an experienced and motivated senior instructor to join our growing team and help transform Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre to the next level.

From paddle sports to rock climbing to dingy sailing, the Weymouth centre not only delivers a wide range of life changing experiences, but also provides the opportunity to explore iconic locations within the famous Jurassic Coast such as Lulworth cove, Swanage Bay and Old Harry Rocks. Our distinctive location along the British coast enables our staff to deliver a first-hand educational perspective and appreciation to the unique geological formations that Dorset is internationally recognised for. The educational experience our staff deliver simply cannot be replicated in a classroom setting.
This is a seasonal six-month contract, with the possibility of extending if the work demands and funding allow. If you already have experience in outdoor education, this role could be the perfect opportunity to gain more experience and broaden your skillset with an organisation that is committed to the development of its employees.

**What you will be doing**
- Our team of instructors are the heart and soul of the centre. They are customer facing and must be polite, courteous and energetic whatever the time of day.
As a seasonal instructor, following a brief induction period, you will utilize your range of skills to get straight out and assist the senior instructors with the delivery of sessions. Within a month we would expect you to become more independent and have the skills necessary to work with other drop-in team members who will look to you for continuity, but this is great opportunity if you are someone looking to expand your leadership skills.
The joy of our working environment is that no two days are the same, but you can expect to see your role divided between:

- Preparing and delivering activities to our customers
- Working as a key member of our team of highly motivated instructors
- Ensuring the maintenance of our resources and equipment
- Carrying out basic administrative tasks when required

**About you**
- We are looking for enthusiastic applicants who is keen to learn new skills and progress their coaching qualifications and remit. As a seasonal instructor, you will often be working in tandem with other team members. However, the applicant must have the ability to take charge of sessions and lead independently when required.
- At least one full year (or two summers) worth of activity delivery experience at an outdoor centre and a passion for working with young people
- 8-hour first aid qualification
- A full driving licensee. Ideally a minibus license but full training will be provided

We expect all the instructor team to be able to work safely in the outdoor environment and understand the importance of working to standard operating procedures. You will be encouraged to ask questions and learn from the senior instructors that you will be working with, by means of self-development. You will also be asked to providing mentorship and demonstrate good working practices to the more junior or ad-hoc team members.

**Additional information**

This post requires the ability to travel between locations and centres. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
Interview date: you will be offered a date during the week commencing 6th March 2023
For an informal chat about the role, please contact: Tanya Budd, Centre Manager
Phone: 01305784927
