This role will involve the practitioner working within the team in a busy Respiratory department providing a range of complex respiratory investigations and producing detailed and evidence based clinical reports.

The post holder will perform a range of respiratory investigations according to grade and within scope of training.

The post would suit a newly or recently qualified Respiratory Physiologist/PTP looking for a springboard to further their career. The department has a proud track record of helping qualified and newly qualified staff pursue qualifications in their chosen sub-specialty within Respiratory Physiology.

The role of a Respiratory Physiologist is to provide a high quality, patient focused, efficient Cardio-respiratory Department at WUTH.

Work in conjunction with the department manager and other staff to ensure the service needs are met.

To communicate as appropriate, with patients, staff and other concerned parties, to ensure best quality service delivery in terms of patient satisfaction, efficiency and effectiveness.

To maintain and develop the knowledge and skills necessary for the post and to deliver training to trainee and assistant staff allocated to your work area.

Ensuring a flexible and responsible service, which is based on an individualised approach to patients, respecting their privacy and dignity at all times.

Act in accordance with Trust health and safety policy ensuring a safe
environment for patients, staff and visitors. Report any untoward incidents as set out in the Trust policies and procedures

Participate in out of hours and weekend working as required to ensure safe and equitable service delivery to our patients.

Able to liaise closely with patients, including those with whom it may be difficult to communicate, and with their carers, explaining procedures and results as appropriate.

The post holder will be required to deal with some patients who are acutely unwell and /or distressed. Ensure that all patients are dealt with courteously and promptly whilst maintaining their comfort and dignity as much as is possible.

Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, determine and perform the appropriate respiratory and sleep test.
- Identify possible contra-indications to any type of modality for (respiratory or sleep) investigation.
- Produce reports of tests performed/interpretation of results.
- As a minimum be trained in Basic Life Support (Will be required to undertake ILS training for Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing).
- Demonstrate IT skills in data input and ability to produce clinical/departmental reports.
- Assess and maintain equipment (static and portable) during all respiratory or sleep investigation.
- Record mechanical and electronic calibration of all equipment prior to clinical use.
- Analyse, diagnose and report any equipment faults to appropriate parties if the post-holder cannot rectify the fault.
- Handle and store equipment and consumables within accepted safe limits according to national regulations, departmental and trust policy for health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrate capability in undertaking clinical governance, audit and research projects contributing to the overall departmental strategy.
