**The Role**

This role sits in our Investigations & Enforcement Team, part of the CAA’s Office of the General Counsel, and is responsible for investigating allegations of breaches of aviation legislation to a successful conclusion. By encouraging compliance with rules applicable to civil aviation, we can protect consumers and the public. Our Investigation Officers contribute to these aims by conducting criminal and regulatory investigations across the UK.
- Consistently display the CAA’s Values and work to our regulatory principles
- Conduct legally compliant and ethical investigations into alleged breaches of aviation legislation
- Conduct investigations with the minimum of supervision and to a high standard
- Take written witness statements and gather exhibits
- Conduct interviews under caution
- Ensure disclosure obligations can be and are met
- Prepare timely case files for legal assessment
- Provide regular updates to witnesses and people under investigation
- Attend court as a witness and officer in the case, and support witnesses as required
- Conduct sensitive internal investigations, maintaining high levels of confidentiality
- Carry out intelligence-led ramp checks at aerodromes across the United Kingdom
- Provide training and informal advice and guidance to colleagues across the CAA
- Work collaboratively with and actively promote collaboration with other CAA teams and external agencies
- Contribute to the development of improvements in the way IET delivers its work

Investigation Officers act in accordance with the CAA’s Values and Regulatory Principles, the Investigations & Enforcement Team Code of Practice and always in compliance with legislation and Codes of Practice, including but not limited to:

- The Civil Aviation Act 1982
- The Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984
- The Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act 1996
- The Human Rights Act 1998
- The Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation
- The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
- Attorney General’s Guidelines on Disclosure

**About You**

You should have proven experience in conducting criminal investigations, preferably including technical and specialist offences.

You will need to be able to demonstrate integrity, skill and professional judgment, particularly in dealing with sensitive investigations.

**Essentials**

Possess a full driving licence and be willing to undertake regular and extensive UK travel, including overnight stays.

Possess a valid passport and be willing to conduct enquiries overseas.

Undergo security vetting to SC level.

Be willing to undertake regular and extensive UK including overnight stays and/or overseas travel.

**Additional Information**

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.
