**The School**

Sutton Valence is an independent, HMC co-educational day and boarding school situated in the

heart of Kent. It is part of, and overlooks, the picturesque village of Sutton Valence whilst being

just a few miles from Maidstone and just over an hour from London. The School’s roll is
currently 575 of which 120 are boarders. Sutton Valence Preparatory School occupies its own

site in the neighbouring village of Chart Sutton and currently has 295 pupils between the ages of

2 and 11.

**The Placement**

We are offering an opportunity for a Psychology graduate to initially spend at least two terms at

the School from January 2024 or earlier. There will be opportunities for working with the Head

of Psychology to develop resources and support the A level students with their studies; work

with the Head of PHSE in developing resources and evaluating their impact; support the

Academic Deputy Head with individual pupils and contribute to research projects; work with the

Deputy Headmaster on other School-wide projects as appropriate. This role would be ideal for a

Psychology graduate who might be interested in exploring a career in teaching, or gaining

experience in an educational setting. Outside the classroom there is scope for involvement in the

School’s varied programme of co-curricular activities and to have responsibility for some
evening boarding duties. The ability to coach sport would be an advantage. The School operates

six days a week during term time, including Saturday afternoons.

- I was very nervous about joining SVS as I’d never been to this area of the country before and it _
- was so far from anyone I knew. However, the staff made me feel comfortable almost _
- immediately, everyone was so friendly that it became a lot easier to fit in and settle down. Not _
- only have I gained great experience towards my future career goals, I’ve also become very _
- independent and have enjoyed stretching my creative capabilities. The School is very _
- accommodating to what you want to achieve from the placement and offer you a range of _
- responsibilities and opportunities. Anyone who takes up this placement will not regret it. _
- A placement at SVS is ideal for anyone wanting to gain experience working with young people or _
