Due to our ongoing expansion, following the award of the National Business Support Partner contract, we are looking to recruit an experienced Start Up Loans First and/or Second Approver or underwriter in other responsible finance to join us as a Loan Approvals Manager. BizBritain is a leading Business Support Partner for the government-backed Start Up Loans scheme and this role will be central to our FCA-regulated delivery of the scheme.

The key objective of this role is to provide initial loan proposals review others' loan proposals and sanction them for ‘approval in principle’ or decline decisions within FCA-regulated consumer credit finance requirements. Loan Approvals Managers are responsible for managing their own caseload, working closely with loan proposers and senior management, with performance primarily assessed against volume and capital targets and strict adherence to policy.

The main duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

- Conducting a full audit review of the loan proposers' rationale for a lending decision to ensure they are within the Scheme’s Lending Policies, Minimum Standards, assessment criteria, BizBritain’s standards, and FCA requirements;
- Preparing Loan Approver Loan Assessment Notes, making a robust recommendation as to whether and why the Applicant should receive a Start Up Loan and keeping secure records of any checks carried out and decisions made, in order to provide a clear decision-making audit trail;
- Submitting Final Loan ‘approval in principle’ recommendations to the Finance Partner so that loan funds can be distributed;
- Champion the fair and positive treatment of customers in accordance with the scheme’s Treating Customers Fairly
- Ensuring high-quality lending decisions are made at all times, whilst maintaining a personal DLA.
- Developing and maintaining a strong knowledge of SUL’s products, resources, policies and processes;
- Identifying opportunities for delivering improvements that support the overall team and business objectives.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

It is essential that applicants for this role have either:

- worked as a business adviser, or loan assessor/approver in the Start Up Loans scheme or
- worked as an Underwriter or equivalent in responsible finance

Successful applicants will:

- Have experience working in a targeted and fast-paced environment;
- Understand the current regulatory requirements: anti-money laundering, KYC, and FCA guidelines on responsible lending;
- Have experience in reviewing information; e.g. reading credit reports and assessing bank statements/transactions
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Have excellent IT, numeracy and English literacy skills.

Ideally, the right applicant would also have:

- Action-orientated;
- Holds themselves and others to account;
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
- Process-orientated.

- £27,000 - £30,000 salary (depending on the level of experience)
