**Job summary**:
Covering both local authority and regulatory social care services, you will lead teams of HMI and regulatory inspectors to deliver high quality inspections and regulatory activity which contributes to improved outcomes for vulnerable children. Modelling excellent inspection practice, you will make complex judgements and communicate them so that providers and local authorities can maximise their learning from inspection.

As part of the region’s leadership team, you will also have a unique contribution to work across our remits, ensuring that our insights are shared, and that children and young people are at the heart of everything that we do.

You will be an effective, experienced leader at a very senior level in children’s social care with a strong track record in quality assurance and constructively challenging others to improve their practice. Your ability to see the big picture, yet deliver on detail, will prove crucial to your success in the role.

**Job description**:
Reporting to a Regional Director, Senior HMI, Social Care are responsible for the performance management, development and deployment of a team of HMI and Regulatory Inspection Managers (and, through whom, for teams of regulatory inspectors), including some with national specialisms that will be shared across the country. Senior HMI will work alongside their direct reports and will coach, train and hold them to account.

Senior HMI are responsible for the quality of inspections, local authority improvement work, inspectors and inspection reports within their team(s). They are responsible for supporting improvement in provision and outcomes for children, young people and families through inspection, monitoring, challenge and sharing what we know works.

Each Senior HMI** **will form part of their senior management team and, as directed by the Regional Director, act as the named Ofsted link to one or more regional groupings of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services/Children’s Improvement Board on social care issues. They will develop a sophisticated understanding of what is happening in their region, informed by high quality data analysis and will drive improvement by working with the grain of what is happening on the ground.
