This role is based at Alderley Park, with the flexibility to work remotely for part of the working week.

Based at Alderley Park, Medicines Discovery Catapult is a national facility connecting the UK community to accelerate innovative drug discovery. We provide unique scientific capabilities and act as a gateway to UK resources and expertise, supporting UK SMEs to drive the development and industrialisation of new approaches for the discovery of new medicines.

By validating new ways of discovering medicines and driving key talent and expertise across the sector, we will support the UK life sciences industry, SMEs and innovators to deliver growth for the UK economy and maintain the UK’s heritage position as a global leader in medicines R&D. Ultimately, new industrialised technologies are vital for delivering new medicines to patients, faster.

**Role purpose**

Reporting to the Chief Scientist and working closely with teams across MDC, the Partnership Lead will be responsible for setting up and delivering a portfolio of high impact patient-focused partnerships, initially focused on neuroscience, leading to impactful collaborations in areas of medical unmet need and driving the delivery of patient-focused medicines R&D.

**Main duties and responsibilities**
- Be responsible for and provide scientific leadership and strategic direction across MDC’s neuroscience partnership portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities set out in the team’s annual delivery plan.
- Gather data and intelligence by working across sectors and engaging with key stakeholders, including senior leaders, to build an in-depth understanding of the UK’s neuroscience landscape.
- Create and nurture relationships with key individuals and organisations across the neuroscience landscape, representing MDC within the field.
- Working across MDC, play a lead role in setting MDC’s partnership strategy for neuroscience; develop and shape the neuroscience partnership portfolio in line with KPIs and strategic priorities, embedding a robust approach to programme management.
- Identify and champion opportunities for potential partnerships, embracing innovative approaches and ways of working. Develop detailed proposals, with input from medical research charities and other partners as relevant. This will include the partnership purpose, operating model, contractual frameworks, research funding strategies etc.
- Lead on all operational activities required to setup a new partnership, this will involve management of activities including securing funding, recruiting new staff to lead on delivery, contracting, financing and governance.
- Provide strategic and scientific management for individual partnerships, including partnerships in mental health, MND and dementia. This will involve developing and implementing a partnership strategy in line with the research landscape and strategic priorities of key stakeholders, with regular monitoring and evaluation.
- Ensure operational excellence in the management and governance of partnerships through management of Partnership Managers, or by leading on activities directly

**Essential qualifications, experience and knowledge**
- A relevant postgraduate degree in biomedical science (e.g. biology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry) and experience working across multiple sectors e.g. charity, industry, academia, NHS
- A track record of successful inception, set up, management and delivery of large research programmes and project portfolios involving multiple organisations
- Experience working in neuroscience drug discovery
- Working experience of drug-discovery, gained either in the bio-pharmaceutical industry, CRO or an academic setting
- Significant experience of influencing senior individuals in a variety of organisations with an ability to create strong working relationships

**Desirable qualifications, experience and knowledge**
- A PhD in a relevant biomedical science (e.g. biology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry)
